Levequests aren't dead, they're merely different than before. They still give decent SP if you put some proactive thought into what camp you're questing at, what monsters you're fighting, and what you set the difficulty level at.

Plus, levequests are still the only way to obtain guild marks, and the best way for us non-crafters to earn gil.

I'm not so sure about this at present. Level difference isn't as big a factor in SP gains in this game as it was in FFXI. Take a low level class and team up with an R50, then go fight some R40 or so monsters together, and let me know what you think of the SP you get.
