    Dark Knight= No base class?

They may not say it outright till we are closer to expansion release, but I think they are going to abolish classes and stick with Jobs. I know there will be people that will say " Why did they just put in ROG then for Ninja?"

Well Expansions are where most major changes occurs (Battle system changes/UI/systems etc. So the reason why they are sticking to class/job with NIN is probably because they are not able to do that yet ( get rid of the class system entirely in just a patch). So the "ROG" could simply be temporary.

The DRK Job not having any class attached to it just seems to me that they are abolishing the class system. It be totally strange to have half the jobs have classes and others strictly jobs.

If they 100% do this, I will be all for it (we use our jobs mostly anyways).

    Well you're right.

The Dark Knight is a tank class, wielding a two-handed sword and the power of dark magic. Unlike other more advanced jobs in the game, the Dark Knight has no prerequisite — one the player purchases Heavensward, they can be a Dark Knight. 2

If they abolish classes completely, I wonder what they're going to do with SMN and SCH. Without a shared class between the two, there is no reason for them to share all but 5 skills, which means they will probably heavily edit one of the two. It's also for this reason that I expect them to not completely abolish the system, just not make any new classes once 3.0 drops.

I look forward to seeing how they will handle this. I without a doubt do not thing they will remove the armory system, but a classless job does raise a few concerns considering job stones we're implemented as simple horizontal growth. GLA, MRD, or LNC could have easily houses this as a class. My question is how can we switch to the job without a class. Obviously Greatswords need to be implemented, but weapons are a part of armory. I really would be happy with a Great sword class, or GLA finally getting 2hnd swords as an alternative to sword and shield. If they were willing to take daggers off of GLA, I wonder how far they will go. Darn you SE and your subtleties.

It is a Advance Job so no class required but if Yoshi-P follows on his original plan for Advance Jobs player will be required to obtain 2 certain Jobs to unlock Dark Knight before they can access it.

They won't be removing Class system since they have set the lore for the classes in the game already.

I won't be surprised if Dark Knight will require Players to complete the lvl 50 Paladin Job Quest and lvl 50 Warrior Job Quest just to unlock Dark Knight.

Well, I expect that there will be an overhaul/replacement of the Armory system, and go with a entirely different system. Heck, I wouldn't rule out Sub Jobs. Subjobs are "kinda" like the Armory system. The only difference is, is that you can't pick and choose the subclasses you want on your job on FFXIV. There is quite a lot they could do if they are to abolish the class system.

If they really wanted to they could work it into the lore. ( To get rid of classes). Like, alot of time has past since the defeat of (Final boss), people are studying on their jobs, and people are less and less going to train under the class instructor, because the Job instructors have alot more to offer than classes and Job Instructors can teach basic Technics as well.

If they wanted to get rid of this system, there would be no Rogue coming>
I guess they try to diversify

I'm more concerned over how support skills will work. At lower levels, those skills can be crucial to have, and as we all know jobs are highly restricted in what they can use compared to base classes. For example, I deteste tanking on WAR at anything lower than level 30 (no HP+, no heal+, no defense) , but as a MRD I don't mind as much since I have bonus skills to help out (Second Wind, Convalescence, Flash, Provoke..).

Since DRK is going to be a tank *shudder* hopefully it will get a few more cross-class skills than your average job.

This can be interpreted as the OP suggests, that there won't be a class for the Drk job.

However, I see this meaning it won't have a prerequisite like the other jobs, where as you had to have another specific job leveled to 15. Instead Drk doesn't require that to unlock the quest to become a Dark Knight, you can unlock Dark Knight right as soon as you finish installing the update. That is what the text reads like to me. There very well can still be a class associated with Dark Knight from 1-30.

Edit: Nevermind. I just saw the other thread that had this image.

So.. yeah, no base class. Okay.

One class is going to get butchered. Let's flip a coin and see which camp of players have to completely relearn their class.
