Should I make a new character to main if I want to RP?

I transferred to this server quite a while ago for the population and RPing, but my character's name isn't fit for her anymore now that she's a lalafell. I want to stop procrastinating and roleplay already, but I'm nervous about how roleplayers will perceive me with a rather... unique lala name.

Should I just start over with a new character again, or stick with Miya? I'd like to stick with Miya because I'd like to keep my forum and character names matching and because I worked rather hard on her despite being behind. But as I said, I also want to try RPing...

Would it be hard catching up to Miya and end gamers with a new character at this point?

Sorry if this came out as me just rambling, it's 5 in the morning. x___x I'd love any advice. I also already have a lalafell hanging out in the Balmung character screen with a much more fitting name in case I make that decision, so I'm not worried about the difficulty in making a new character for Balmung.

Hmm. If you are willing to pay for it you can transfer the character off, create a level 1 with the same name on Balmung; then transfer back. It will prompt you for a name change.

The right there is a 30 dollar name change and also a risk that the server may be full once you go to transfer back.

Miya, I've seen many of people role play with even the silliest of names. Stick with your main imo unless your name really bothers you. Depending how far you progressed it may be silly to start again.

I don't RP, never have. But I do like to write.

What if you came up with a story about how you ended up with such a unique name. Something like your parents died when you were a baby, and you were discovered by two Mithra (or whatever race makes sense for your name) hunters who raised you.

The great thing about RP, is you can use your imagination to explain just about anything. Including odd names.

There isn't any need to change it; many RP'ers decide to after creating their character (that's what I did) and many have very silly names, like Kerwin has said. So unless it's something you really want to do, please don't worry about what others think as it's unnecessary! Anyone you RP with will understand - there are many in the same situation.

You could easily work her name into the lala naming convention eg Miyaya Miya is her real name, but people just call her Miya. I think that fits? Or work it into her back story.

My Aris has a Keeper name but she is a suncat. It used to bother me a lot, but no-one else has minded, and on her profiles I've mentioned it so they understand the situation. I'm thinking her mother might be a Keeper and father a Seeker, which is why she has the Seeker attributes. Or something.

It definitely isn't worth spending money or spending lots of time starting all over again unless you want to. But to other RPers it really won't matter, so don't worry.

It's really up to you on this one, if you don't think you can take RP seriously with the name you might consider a new character or going through the process of the name change loophole people mentioned before, but if you don't mind your name you can always just play it off as the name is a result of circumstance like you never knew your family so you created your own persona at a young age or something completely out there that caused you to take on a potentially fake name. Most people won't mind your name bein' the way it is though.
