It only takes one wrong move for someone to completely destroy their legacy. Video games are no different. In this case, the guy made two bad games.
I should have specified that my reply was centered around the XIV 1.0its why everything was broken in 1.0 at launch, and I do NOT mean things like collisions or models.
People were screeching about all the things that made 1.0 fail even from its inception, and the official response to it was a notice telling people it was their job to test, not make comments on the direction of the game.
Tanaka listened to NO ONE, and its why he was unable to adjust and solve his mistakes.
For someone demanding facts you contribute zero.
You're talking about 1.0 right ? To me it seems like you were playing some totally different game. 1.0 wasn't broken, not even close. In fact it was lacking features
I played 1.0 starting from Open Beta and I clearly remember as if it was today, that the only things people were literally hating about the game were missing skill point rewards, mounts (remember those times when you had to level up MIN and BTN to run faster ?) crappy and slow inventory UI and the occasional disconnects that were more or less fixed after sometime. These were the actual, real reasons to hate on the game back then, even the copy pasted terrain wasn't a big argument on the forums. Amount of people arguing about 1.0 being a bad game wasn't that big and the topics of that kind were not the most popular threads
Then there were a few people like you who were asking for another XI-2, but they got denied by the 1.0 white knights and the casuals, who wanted XIV to be the new game
Saying that Tanaka is the reason why XIV sucked is simply outrageous. People were playing the original 1.0 content for many months, before Dzemael, Totorak and Ifrit were released. During that time I don't recall them arguing about the game being too boring or repetitive. Players enjoyed it, synthesis gathering or leveling up another class lasted for quite long. You certainly can't say that about the current "regime" we have with all these lockouts and meaningless grinding made up to suck out your subscription time
Regarding the new job and other new things original to 2.0. I'm all hands down for that, the game was rubbing in the old 1.0 stuff for too long. It definitely needs fresh things to start kick in rather sooner than later
You heard it here, folks! Lacking features does not make something broken! Is your car missing an engine? Don't worry, it's not broken! It's just lacking features! >_>1.0 wasn't broken, not even close. In fact it was lacking features

Also, do you not remember the massive amounts of hate for fatigue and the market wards? How can you forget that?

I do remember complaints about the fatigue. I also remember that people ignored it alltogether and just pushed further to 50
Market wards was a tedious thing too, though people were using their bazaar as main shop for some time. Then we got the search feature later on
Sure, the more hardcore pushed through fatigue. Meanwhile, the casual crowd it was allegedly meant to help just got left further behind.lol sarcasm

And personal bazaars did not by any stretch redeem the market wards. You still had to search each individual person's bazaar and hope they had what you wanted. Meanwhile, market wards were hampered by having absolutely no organization and horrible collision. The search feature was essentially a field dressing over an open stomach wound: good enough to hold things together, but not enough to fix the problem.
And then the complaints about the crafting system. . .
ITT : people implying only one person is needed to make a MMORPG.
Most people who made the 1.0 are still working on ARR now. They just... learnt from their mistakes? like everyone?
So is this another I hate Yoshi-P thread, disappointed DRK isn't like FFXI, or something else?
I think too many people forget it was the players that decided on what they wanted changed and not just Yoshi-P.

Tanaka refused to listen to the player base. it took him how long to put moogles in selbina? How long were people asking for it?
Fact of the matter is Tanaka should have stuck with single player games, MMOs weren't exactly a good idea. A lot of what he did was "oh this job is underused lets make it excel in the next expansion or upcoming fight so people have to play longer.
FFXI was never hard. Fact. I you were willing to level another job and gear/use that for content it made it very easy.
Tanaka wasn't suitable for MMOs since he didn't want to develop for the community but make the game to fit his views.
A lot of people forget the majority of the 1.0 changes they liked were made by Yoshi-P
