I played ffxiv 1.0 back before jobs. I mained gla and crossed class a lot of thm skills, making a unique "drain tank" that was infinitely more fun than any other class combination or jobs I have played since.

I, for one, am super, super excited to have both a new tank role (which I have been wanting since 2011 when they forced me into pld) and DRK. The fact that they're one in the same, does not come as a surprise to me, or a disappointment.

Also, to anyone who doesn't understand this, this game has been taking every single one of the jobs from FFIV. The only ones not added are NIN, DRK, and ENG, which we are getting 2 of the 3 for sure now, in that order. DRK was a converse to Cecil's PLD in that game, so it makes perfect sense from that position. Not to mention from a balance position. Too much longer without a new tank or healer and too many new DPS would verily hurt this games player interest.

I've been saying this since that Titan Sprite Animation; muskateer will be ENG. It will be utility healing support.

and About the lack of base class. It will probably be an alternate job stone to Gladiator.

If you felt like being a dishonorable fighter, you could jump down and open the gate, letting your buddies rush in to gank him.

Truly despicable though.

You could actually use a Black Mage or a Summoner to cast through the wall without opening the door if he was close enough. Flare him.

As for the OP, I think a DRK tank will be interesting and fun. We may see thr return of spells like Drain, Absorb-VIT, Spike spells (defensive buff). It could definitely make use of some of 1.0's original THM abilities in a tank fashion.

Or be ridiculously cheap and CT5 Holy. >_>

But, on topic, I see the potential for a good tank here; it just remains to be seen if I'll like it.

Fun fact: neither Cecil nor the king of Baron were "dps", both were more protectors and tanks. There is precedence for drk tanks.

Cecil was actually pretty good DPS. It is also worth noting that KAIN was a better tank than Cecil at that point in the game and he was a gorram dragoon.

you can't compare a solo game and a mmorpg, if we was following the ff lore, most of the jobs will be dps... they needed to add class that are tank.

and sorry if you don't like this, but a big armor, with spell that cripples the enemy and drain them make it a perfect fit for a tank.

Yeah most Final Fantasy titles don't even have defined roles, so comparing their MMO counterparts doesn't necessarily work.

Celes was an amazing "magic tank" and she didn't even have a class. Oh, you wanna cast a spell? Gimme.

YES!!!!!!! I wanted to be a DRK tank so badly. It was the best tank job in FFXI for many years can't wait to tank on DRK again.
