I didn't want flying mounts at all really. I think it takes away some of the sense of exploration and if you think there's no danger in the world now there will be even less when you are flying everywhere, at least it wont be everywhere.

Yoshi-P mentioned that the skies are controlled mostly by the Dragons. I'm sure it will still be as dangerous as walking around on the ground.
Also exploring floating islands sounds amazing ^^!

...which is about as dangerous as running around in the cities? 8) I mean you can totally get stuck in objects!

But yeah to sum it up: 6 flying mounts being worked on, one being the chocobo; 7th one hinted at; flying is completely seamless in 3.0 zones, you can take off, fly, land, run then take off again anywhere in those places; also, single-rider airships announced but no details given yet.
