Linkpearls and their capabilities.

Hey there,

I'm completely new to the forums, and taking a look around, but one thing has come to mind during my time playing in FFXIV and RP-ing on the Gilgamesh server...

What exactly are the capabilities, and beyond that, the limitations of the linkpearls/linkshells/etc. in the game, and in the lore?

How do they work, exactly?

Do they pull from the base aether of the user, as a means of channeling the communications across the entire length of Eorzea, or is there some other explanation?

Are images, thoughts, emotions, ideas, locations, or any other non-literal mediums able to be translated, transferred, and/or purveyed across these links?

I know these are a lot of questions rolled up into one post, but I figured somebody would have an answer/theory.

Actually, link pearls are two way radios. Cid starts to explain how they work via electromagnetic signals at one point, and when the warrior of light just stare at him, he sighs and says it works via aether.

Possibly Meaning that the link shells are garlean tech. This also means they may not be that wide spread. We still see runners being used, for instance.

I've always assumed they work kind of like Cell Phones but on a party channel in the same way two way radios. Like they have partry lines where more than one person can talk in the same LS but it is turned on and off like a bluetooth ear peice since the player or NPC reaches towards their ear to use it. And while it has the range of a cell phone that being near infinite, it seems very subject to EM interfearence as well as needing open space as it has a problem while under ground in some CSs.
