PS4 Screenshots - Lossless Quality?

I'm curious why the PlayStation 4 version of FFXIV does not allow for lossless image quality screenshots (.PNG) and only uses .JPG format, despite the fact that the PlayStation 3 version allowing for lossless images.

Especially considering the fact that the image quality is much better on PlayStation 4. I take screenshots on my PS4 and they come out grainy, whereas my PS3 screens looked pretty amazing, even though the graphical quality wasn't nearly as high due to hardware limitations.

I understand that the screenshot feature on XIV is tied with the Share button, so I don't know if this is part of the issue.

Are there possible considerations into adding the ability for PS4 users to take lossless quality screenshots or is this something to do with the hardware not supporting it?

I have been looking everywhere about PS4 screenshots quality (.PNG) & thought something was wrong with my settings as I remember the option on PS3, then came across this thread.

Would it be possible to look into adding the (.PNG ) option?

The PS4's "share" button generates screenshots for exactly that. JPG is the prefered format for sharing photos. Thus it compresses files a JPG... with satisfactory results. Take a look between these comparison shots...

There's not really all that much of a noticeable quality difference between the three... the PNG file size is ~3,000k versus 500-800K for the JPGs.

Then it needs another screenshot function for people who want their own images (or who specifically want to share a high-def one). With the typical size of hard drives these days, file size is pretty irrelevant.

But it does look like it's probably a Sony issue rather than a Square Enix one. (There are a number of rather annoying design decisions on the PS4. Though I like the greater power of the PS4 compared to PS3, its interface is nowhere near as good as its predecessor. )

i can understand where the issue is with the Share button. via this method the PS4 itself is choosing the format. this wouldn't be something SE can do anything about. however, i don't think it would be very hard from them to make a new button combination specifically for screenshots. something like L1+Options, or even the ability to map a screenshot function to one of the already re-mappable thumb-stick buttons. like this we would be able to choose the format through the game options.

That's true, with the Share button it makes sense that added settings wouldn't help as it's a PS4 feature & not related to the game itself. But like you mentioned an in-game function is doable albeit, redundant..so I can see why this won't be added either. (>_<)

It seems players are interested to have these options so hopefully FFXIV team or Sony implement an improved feature.

yeah. it would totally be better for Sony to do it. then at least we could change the screenshot format for ANY game on the system. however, i am sure as hell not holding my breathe waiting for Sony to do something of anything. almost 2years now, and almost no change to any of the user interface elements. meh.
