I have had the unfortunate circumstance of accidentally "withdrawing" from duty due to the timing of the window popping up and me interacting with an unrelated part of the game (was quickly backing out of a merchant). I do this 3 times in a day and I'm banned from DF til reset?

The only way you would have withdrawn from the duty is if you press cancel/withdraw. Closing the Duty Ready window doesn't withdraw you from the duty, you just minimised it; if you press on the Duty Finder in your Duty Log, you can accept again. If, as you are saying, that you were only closing windows open, then by rights you shouldn't have been withdrawn.
