To allow players who do not own an estate to increase the maximum rank of their chocobo companions, Thavnairian onions can now be used while a chocobo companion is summoned in the field.
Good change for those without housing.

A welcome change, one step towards the right path... though I find it funny that you can feed your choco a high level expensive item outside a stable, yet god knows why you can't feed them the coloring fruits.

Well, the Thavnairian onion doesn't require your chocobo to rest for six hours afterwards :3 The effect is instant, afaik. Not so with colouring fruits.

I know, the logic behind it is unreal! Which is why it is more puzzling haha XD Again, it's just odd that coloring fruits require the chocobo to rest while an onion that supposedly breaks the limits of a chocobos strength/growth happens with a click of a finger.

Not really odd when you think about it - Leveling the chocobo made sense as you needed a stable, chocobo coloring is part of the 'raising' aspect, which has always been a type of content in the FF games, so it not working in the same fashion as the onion makes sense as it's part of an overall raising system.
