24 hour patch in this day and age?

I dont mind it being extended an extra hour so no one gets ahead in weekly cap. I just hope they dont extend that one hour only to, in the end, release it early anyway >.>

I dont see it ending early this time. They specifically added that hour just to make sure it was after the reset and to avoid a big rush of people trying to get an advantage on tomestones before reset. If it ends early it completely makes that pointless. But we know who we are dealing with here so who knows.

I have never heard of any game going down for 24 hours in the years and years i been playing for a patch maintenance... sure they might add some hardware to try and compensate for their horrible latency issues which haven't gone away much still... but really 24 hours to install a patch and do a quick hardware test??

I can understand 8 hours... but 24 that is insane..

This isn't like installing the client where you click on a .exe and click next a few times and you're done. They need to make sure they don't break anything in the process. Plus it also says they are doing database optimization so they can handle the additional housing plots they are adding. Depending on the size of the database, that will take time.

So you want your character to be deleted from the server from a rushed maintenance? They are expanding the servers for load, and the information of EVERYONE'S characters are on those servers. It is taking so long because you cannot rush in and change things because if information is lost from the server it is lost forever.

Read what they wrote on the lodestone... It is right there. I certainly don't want to lose all my hard work because someone from the playerbase expects the dev team to rush maintenance.

Ah I was wondering when a thread regarding the patch maintenance would come up and voila, here we have one. Honestly if it ensures we don't have to have several 2 -6 hr emergency one's, immediately of a few days after this incoming patch that's fine.

I will however during this time be spending my time on TERA, because PvP there as my priest is always fun and enjoyable, and being impossible to kill and a pain in everyone's ass is +100.. xD

Inefficiency is the name of the game.
Nothing inherently wrong with that.
They deserve time to do their job right (which isn't programming the software, this is just the people at Frontier installing the new software on essentially 18 massive 128 unit racks of machines. It takes time.) and you deserve a day off the game. I'm going spelunking, personally.

I'd rather they take their time with the maintenence. It would be bad if characters are lost.

Right now, Rift, which just had its expansion a few hours ago have 3 servers with missing characters for all accounts, for 5 hours now. I would be angry if that happened to FF14.

People who open up such threads have way too much time anyway. Be happy that new content is coming and stop complaining about not being able to play for 24 hours straight. Do something productive in that time, for god sake.
