Putting aside my hilarious comment from yesterday, we did make an inquiry about this! The dev. team liked the idea, and know it's a popular one for many reasons (such as those listed in this thread), and they do want to implement it. However, items currently place a huge load on the server, especially the Market server, so this isn't something that can be implemented immediately. Once server-related issues are resolved, which plans are in motion to do, we can start working on implementing signatures, etc.

Sorry that it's not a technical breakdown of what the exact programming-related issue is, but hopefully we'll continue to get good ideas for future additions, regardless of any current technical hurdles (that are being addressed).

Could this be related to having 10 colors of every armor piece in the game? If so, I'd vote to do away with the system except on Rare/Ex items that are gained from Dungeon Raids or HNM's. That would be an immediate measure to help against server clog, and after all most of the armor looks almost exactly the same regardless of the color.

Nowai, the color diversity is awesome. if anything more things need color options, and current things need more color options. The major problem isnt that there are so many different types of items, it is how the servers is handling them.

It's a Picasso. Without the signature. For real!

Darn it, I don't want my immortalized work to be mortalized! Why do you insist on taking my darn name off? Maybe the original crafter can remove it. Or you could, you know, not buy it and buy it from someone else with a less embarrassing "joke that a twelve years old thought". Or ask him for one without the comment. Or look for a crafter personally to make it without--

Look, point being, what's the point of a signature everyone else can, and will weather they want to or not (thank Auction House), clean right off?

Not everyone will put on a comment just because they can, y'know? Like, for example, people who don't like the idea. Some will make jokes, some will give it a stronger role-play element by carefully detailing the item, it's materials and/or origins. Just saying the window should stay open. Some will do nothing at all and keep on grinding on those swords.

Aaaand... I just plain love item descriptions. Every item on every RPG should have them. Helps imagine those intangible letters more concretely.

Maybe it should be rare? I don't even know anymore... Thanks heavens I don't work for the dev team.

Hey! I know where that's coming from!

Unfortunately as many, many, MMORPGs have shown, people will more often then not, use the comment section for childish comments (often to show us that they found a new, creative, way around censored words). And as far as the artists name is concerned, even FFXIV is plagued with a large number of characters with random, often asinine names which I would not want associated with my game play.

This means that I (as the buyer) have to choose to go without, hope that someone more mature is selling the item, or craft/farm it myself which is often enjoyable but not always a viable solution.

Having the ability as the owner of them item, to remove any (imo game breaking/interrupting) user contributed text on a crafted item makes the best argument. In this way those who make legitimate titles/comments on crafted items (and those who enjoy this as part of the game world) can participate, and those who either take it as a joke, or those who would rather not have the text on their item, can choose to remove it. Granted I don't think it should be "free". If you make an additional cost to clearing an items custom name/text/crafter, the majority of people (who probably don't care one way or the other) will just leave it, while those that are passionate about the subject (as I am) can pay the extra (or do the task/quest/whatever) and "clean" the item.

That being said, if you as a crafter have a "good" (as in a name that you might actually find in the world, not IamAfuzzyRabbit or something equally random) and choose to title/comment your crafted works with text that contributes to the game, rather than breaks one out of it, I would have no problem keeping your text on my item. So I do think that (always) clearing a title, like FFXI did, is a bit overkill, but not allowing us to clear it if desired, is just as bad.

Though I still hold hope that the game is/will be populated enough for consumers to be able to chose not to buy something signed if they are so adamant on their... "opinion?", can still just find the same item elsewhere with the qualities they see fit and that there's enough crafters to go around (though it would be hard to judge even now with the extremely harsh sales limitations AND unstable markets), that they'll be able to just shrug it off and say "plenty of swords in the sea"... I have to admit you make a very convincing argument.

Point taken, likes given. Well done.

Indeed. I see the option to engrave a short comment adds more value and fosters player creativity.

I'm aware that there are potentials for abuse due to rude or immature players, but those can be dealt with fairly easily.

I dunno about that. That motion would get old after the 50th time.
