It's a security thing with Windows... more problematic in the later Windows versions. And it isn't restricted to just XIV--other games and programs can have issues with it too. Certain actions are restricted to the lower user level you typically run in now. Lowering/disabling UAC can mitigate some of the issues that can crop up, but that can leave you exposed to attack vectors if you aren't using best practices for networks/internet.

Ultimately, you may need to assign specific programs to run as administrator in the shortcut's compatibility properties for them to function properly.

Aside from first runs of games, FFXIV is literally the only game on my steam list (219 games and 13 software) that runs in administrator mode. I can't see any real reason for it, either. There is absolutely zero reason why an MMO would need administrator rights on a machine to run it.

Apparently it's because I don't have a copy of Rapture3D in my game folders. It did not come with the trial version of the game, and I just copied that over into my steam install director when I purchased it through steam (because forget downloading it /again/)

    -[edit+]-

Apparently I am derp. That was for some F1 game, and I just saw a capital F on the top of the steam thread and read it as FFXIV.
