    A little worried.

So as we know DRK is going to be the new tank in 3.0 which is pretty awesome, I'm personally looking forward to it as pld was a blast for me.

But what worries me is the people jumping on the bandwagon for it, I wouldn't mind as much if it wasn't such a crucial role in the party.

People already have a hard enough time understanding the concept of mar/war gld/pld tanking, aka tanks not marking targets, not knowing how to handle hate on each target/tunnel visioning, not knowing combo's to hold hate, spamming one ability in hopes of holding hate, running around in circles. (STOP RUNNING AROUND IN CIRCLES! )

It's funny though when I think about it, back when I was leveling my first couple of jobs, mnk than drg, I didn't pay to much attention to how tanks handled things and I think I just rolled with it but after playing pld I notice bad tanking habits much more now and how much it can hurt a party when going through your dungeon.

Now I'm all for helping out people when they're tanking if they're open to listening, but some people who play tank jobs just don't seem to care, or just run head long into things than complain when things go sour and sometimes even ditch the party.

Anyways I know it's early but I'm kind of worried at people hopping on the bandwagon for DRK and thinking it'll be easy when tanking is a very important role.

so you are worried that people are going to jump on the DRK bandwagon and be bad? thats nothing new. Now if you were worried about DRK getting a bad name for the derpy shit much like DRG then it is understandable but i wouldn't worry to much about players of less skill doing subpar things, that already happens. just learn to be selfish like most tanks and only run with people you know.

TL;DR bads will be bads let them be and go tank with friends

The baddies will be weeded out quickly. Just like all these bandwagon ninjas will be gone in 2 or 3 weeks.

It will work itself out. People will either stick with DRK and get good at it, or try something else. I hope lots of people give dark knight and tanking a chance.

Personally, I can't help but think that DRK was made Tank, simply because they felt it was the best way to get more tanks. DRK is a popular class, those who love it are gonna grin and bear being a tank instead of a DPS. I would think in terms of gameplay, it was a good choice for tank if only because there is a population out there currently not playing tank who will now play tank because of this job.

Yes, I agree placing a popular job into a relatively unpopular role was probably deliberate for that reason. I remember at the London Fest, Yoshida implored people to please tank.

It's going to be interesting, being someone who picked up DRK right away in FFXI, it was always the job people had made fun of for being a "sub-par" dps job. Seeing it as a tank job on FFXIV will be nice though, I can only guess that they'll have some nice HP absorbing and HP sacrifice moves in there arsenal.

But you're right I'm glad it's a tank class in some degree, cause if it was another dps class well ... there would just be so many.

People still wont tank, no matter how much they like the DRK. It's a crucial role, and takes a lot of heat, and many people don't handle it well.

As a healer main who just started GLD and found just how much responsibility it is, my only hope is that they learn along the way. I'm sure everyone backtracks a bit on their first Sastasha run... right?
