If you haven't reached Ramuh in the main story yet, he may give you a few scant nuggets.

Yeah, I did notice that Ramuh mentions a time before the Light and the Dark existed, but I haven't gotten round to chasing that up yet. I presume that's the kind of thing you're referring to?

Ramuh implies that there was originally a balance of some kind at which point the concepts of light and dark did not exist. Then something happened which caused light and dark to separate. Ramuh considers the possibility that the creation of the mortal races was what caused the imbalance but he doesn't actually seem to know.

So maybe Hydaelyn and Zodiark are 'primals'? In the sense that Ferne referred to the primals and elder primals as brought into being by belief and worship in them? Maybe we - the mortal races - created Light and Dark (and thus the struggle between them and the lack of balance) by our need for these two deities that reflect our own moral duality.Ramuh implies that there was originally a balance of some kind at which point the concepts of light and dark did not exist. Well, we live on Hydaelyn. If we "created" Zodiark and Hydaelyn, where were we before that?So maybe Hydaelyn and Zodiark are 'primals'? Whilst our world is called Hydaelyn it is separate from the mothercrystal herself of the same name. Hydaelyn the mothercrystal exists in the aetherial realm and all aether in the world of Hydaelyn comes from her and returns to her via the lifestream.
Hydaelyn is both the world and the creator, though they are actually separate entities sharing the same name.
I wouldn't think we created them via some summoning equivalent though. Ramuh's suggestion, when paired with Lahabrea's (potentially false) explanations, would mean that Hydaelyn created the mortal races and broke the balance in doing so. That may not be the case, and even if it were we have no idea what that actually means for the wider scope of the story. If Hydaelyn did indeed break the balance as Lahabrea suggests then I would assume she had a reason for doing so as she has put her own existence in danger as a result.

I'd really love a quote saying Hydaelyn is in the aetherial realm. Right now it's a but fuzzy, but from what we know, the world is Hydaelyn as in "Hydaelyn created the world" (which also fits with other FFs lore).Whilst our world is called Hydaelyn it is separate from the mothercrystal herself of the same name.
