this is a good idea, eternal bonding should only be for aesthetic purposes. In my strange head cannon, the marriage mechanic could have been just a fun nod to the RP people on Balmung and Gilgamesh but eh... *shurgs*
But if I had to suggest anything that wouldnt give married couples an advantage, I would say more hair styles, tattoos and so on? They wont give any players advantages and they would be merely for Aesthetic purposes. Yes, it would lock content away from unmarried couples but it wont give married couples a definitive or unfair advantage (and lets be honest, they wont be locked out from game breaking content or lore, unlike difficult COIL. Dx)
on a side note, me and my friend talked about it and it should only be with someone you trust. kinda like the real deal.
