Question on leveling a different class

I started as an Archer, and it's okay, but didn't really suit my style (I really only did it for that awesome feather hat it showed on the creation menu). I've always been more into healers/casters. I played a Disc Priest and Aff/Destro Warlock in WoW. I'm thinking of switching to Conjurer for the time being, since I have that option now.

    Anyway, my questions are...

    1. While leveling Conj, could I pick up a quest as Conj, switch to Archer to breeze through the mobs, and then switch back to Conj when I turn the quest in for the XP?

    2. Do I have a separate Hunting Log for my Conj class?

    3. I've been saving some sidequests on my Archer to level the Conj with, since it's in the same start zone. Will these still be on my character tonight when I swap my gear over, or do I need to go pick them up again?

Thanks for your help, lads and lasses! I'm at work currently, so I can't test these things, and I'd like to know so I can figure out what to do when I get on tonight.

    1) Yes, though there are some caveats to that. I believe your CNJ has to be the same level (or higher) as the quest in order to turn it in. May be a 5 level buffer. Like a Lv1 CNJ cashing in a Lv6 quest because they are within five levels of each other. Don't quote me on the levels. I just know you can switch, but I'm not 100% sure on what the lvlrequirement is.

If you just started, try to plow ARC up to 15 so you can get an airship pass to another city. Once there, you'll have access to a bunch of low level starter quests that are great when leveling a new job. That's what I'm doing with MRD. I purposefully am leaving all of the low level quests in Limsa alone for when I'm ready to level my MRD.

    2) Yes. Each class has its own hunting log that is independent from the other.

    3) Quests (aside job specific quests every fifth level) do not care what your current class is when you pick it up, or when you complete it. So long as you meet the level requirement. Again - whatever that is.

Actually, I'm going to append a disclaimer to my previous statements. I know you COULD do all of that (in item 1 and 3) a year ago. I've actually not had to do anything like that in a long time so I cannot confirm that, that is still the way it works. I don't see why they would have changed it. I know I did a LOT of jumping between low level jobs a year ago. So there were a lot of crossing quests between different classes depending on what I felt like playing at that moment.

    Hey OP,
if you liked disc priest and destro/afflic lock.... I'd try arcanist first. (have to get archer through level 15 Main Story quest to get airship pass, ACN is in Limsa) It is a dot based class that summons an assistant (caster dps or melee tank) At 30 you can unlock two different jobs for it (that level together but can switch between the two) Summoner is a DOT based dps still (gets access to a melee dps pet at 30) you need THM to 15 to unlock (I suggest burning it to 26 asap though for swiftcast to instantly re-summon or raise) Scholar is a shield healer (summons two fairies who assist in healing). you need cnj to 15 to unlock (34 has your best cross class skill though)

This might also be a good thing to attempt because it allows you the DPS to do solo stuff with a tank pet, but also get the quick healer queue for dungeons. Just switch to sch and queue, you'll have a 10m que at max usually.

One more thing. You get a 50% xp increase on every battle class upto the level that is highest of a battle class. Ie getting your archer to 15 will get every other class to 15 quicker. Raise something else to 20, everything gets the bonus to 20, etc

    1. Yes, but your CNJ has to be the some level as the quest or higher. Note that most quests require you to be a combat class (DoW/DoM), so you cannot turn them in as a crafter (DoH) or gatherer (DoL) class. Also, if you're doing a F.A.T.E. and switch classes, I believe your contribution resets and you have to start over, so don't try to level another class that way.

    2. Yes.

    3. Changing classes only changes your skills and class/job-specific hotbars (#1-3). Nothing else changs. Your quest log stays the way it is, though some quests have turn-in requirements like a level minimum (and class quests require you to be the class for the quest). If the quest can't be done as your current class, you should get a message saying so when you try to pick it up or turn it in.

Also, if it wasn't obvious, you can create gear-sets for your different classes on the character screen, and drag those gear-sets to hotbar keys. Putting a bunch of gear-sets for different classes on a hotbar that doesn't change when you change classes (#4-10) is a great way to quickly switch between them.

Pretty much you can alternate classes as you like. Some require a particular category of class (like needing to be accepted and turned in by a combat class rather than crafting class or vice versa) but you can alternate within that category, and your class quests / job quests have to be done by that specific class or job. The turn-in XP goes to the class you are when you turn it in, regardless of which class you were when you completed any of the quest's other objectives.
