They had this same problem in FFXI. They never fixed it.I would only imagine that the devs of this game actually expected potions to be at least somewhat viable, else why even put them in the game? Fan service? Having a healthy supply of potions has been a staple part of Final Fantasy for over 20 years!! They could be instant life-savers when low-intermediate levels, and have even be used to one-shot zombie boss fights!! To be relegated to an item that you instantly discard upon receiving just seems wrong.
Anyway, he's already said jobs will not be using consumables. I'm pretty sure if they add Chemist, it would work similar to (exactly?) the new system they're adding for NIN with its mudras.

Samurai
Dark Knight
Please Look Forward to It!!

Dark Knight (if SAM is tank = DPS; else tank)
Samurai (if DRK is tank = DPS; else tank)
Chemist (Healer)
Wildcard class (DPS)

they removed arrows/chakrams/javelins, etc, as ammo...cause they don't want consumables like that. so it doesn't make sense to add a job, who is centered around using consumable items. On topic: I agree with the 3rd job sticking to the medieval theme as well. We already have Alchemy in the game, but potions/tonics and things like that were a large and important part of the medicine practice during that time period. I think the healer class will be a Chemist, to make use of the healing-type potions in the game that largely go unused.
I'd love to see chemist as it fits the castle theme so well, but not as a gun wielding class, its a waste to use an iconic dps weapon on a healer, when weapons are only tied to one class.
There is no system that could viably work that doesn't make the gun do bugger all damage and just not get used, or do too much damage and make chemist unbalanced against the other healers.
I'd prefer it is Dark knight was a great sword DPS class, I just can't picture the hp sacrificing DRK that would bring in some interesting mechanics as a tank, doesn't fit the bill for me.
On the tank side though, a templar, mystic knight or Samurai would be cool. (I'm not suggesting the samurai would be set up in ishgard)

They could do the same with the 2h sword class if they choose, where the 2 jobs are SAM(tank) + DRK(dps)
However, if they wanted to, DRK can make an interesting tank class that uses debuffs and absorbs to tank. They could perhaps make some interesting tanking mechanics where the DRK can sacrifice life to create absorb shields that are more powerful than the life sacrificed (give 500 hp, get 1500 hp shield, or get 500 hp shield and take -30% dmg for X seconds or something like that). And they could still retain their soul eater ability as a DPS stance similar to a PLD's sword oath.
Honestly, even though it's a little bit of a stretch, I'd almost prefer DRK to be a tank class. I think I would have more opportunity to play it as a tank, as opposed to a melee DPS that has to compete with the flood of NINs coming in 2.4.

Musketeer branching into Corsair (dps) or Chemist (healing) would be awesome. I would actually prefer Samurai for a tank class, but that is purely my own personal desire. I prefer to tank, and I would love for my main class to be samurai. :PThe gun class could have 2 jobs: chemist + dps job

Sam (tank), DRG (dps), RNG (dps) & BLU (hybrid?). My biggest wish is that they get rid of our current class/job system so they can create jobs with more depth.
We need Viking back in the series gosh darnit!

I'm expecting RDM to be released at expansion!![]()
