I think most of the people that are against the nerf is not that they think the nerf is bad but think that is too soon. Coil still relevant for gear. All the people crying that they just want to see the story should also wait until gear is not relevant
There's not much difference between coil and token gear at this point. Same ilvl and main stats. I don't see why people are fussing over gear that doesn't do anything special whatsoever. I'd totally understand if the coil gear had set bonuses or added effects but there's none of that here. Just let everyone get through coil, see the story and move on.

I am gonna have to disagree with easying up on the coil mechanics and how fight works, that said I dont really mind that they add echo since its a buff you can remove yourself if you want to experience the fight how it was intended back in the day.
This game is very casual, how would you feel if say you were struggling with something, after weeks or even months of working with a team of friends finally beating that content, that feeling, the excitement, then you meet a person who beat it after its nerf'd and have no sense of accomplishment but walking around with same loot drops as you.
This game got alot of content that caters to the casual and average player, coil is the only hardcore content and some people play just for raiding purposes, and when someone who got 90% of the game to enjoy themself with, Crystal Tower, Zodiac relic quests etc, now coming over and asking to make story-mode Coil, is like Orphan Oliver asking "May I have some more?".

To be honest with you, those struggling now will struggle even after the nerf; unless they completely water down the fights ala AK style. If you don't know any of the mechanics you're not progressing anywhere. It will still require time to learn how the fights work.

Except you'll have your Final Coil gear soon enough, so what does it matter? This game is very casual, how would you feel if say you were struggling with something, after weeks or even months of working with a team of friends finally beating that content, that feeling, the excitement, then you meet a person who beat it after its nerf'd and have no sense of accomplishment but walking around with same loot drops as you.
Oh man, you didn't just compare yourself with one of the most famously cruel characters in all of English Literature, did you? Oh my god, you did. /laugh Careful you might end up in the same boat as us pauper casuals some day.
Even if they nerf most the mechanics, introduce higher Ilevel and echo people will still suck and die and cry for more nerfs. Untill we reach WoW flex raid level.
You people need to realize that coil was not made to appease the average player. It was made to appease the hardcore players while the rest of the game was made for garba-- er not as good players.
The fact you want the "hardcore" (not that hard) raid to be catered to you is the epitome of entitlement.

The concept of Crystal Tower as a casual raid does not work as long as the game provides no match making.
I for one will simply blaze through it in iLvL 110 gear, and with me many others. We're not there to make it fun or exciting for more casual oriented players. Just like many we're just there for a weekly piece of loot. As players are simply piled up like that, it turns into little more than a zerg fest.
Crystal Tower did not become engaging till the release of ST. At that point the zerg went out of it, and people actually had to start communicating more often as they only just made the gear cut. Many are less familiar with tactics. Etcetera.
ST will have to wait till 2.5 to get the same feeling.
So if SE's intention was to create a fun yet engaging experience for the more casual players with raids like CT and ST.... well then they failed imo. As all what's been created is a zerg fest at release.

This is very interesting - but I think the best suggestion has already been made: Having 3 versions. Story, Hard, Extreme (Savage). They need to give some better rewards for Savage though. It should look like:
Story - No reward other than the gil you get for completing the quest.
Hard - Current rewards (in 2.2 i110 gear)
Savage - Materia that can be melded into Allagan Gear for like +7 of a secondary stat, or +3 of a primary.
