Looks like their plans to make you buy items off their shop worked XP Now you know why vanity items are hard to come by in the first place. The way cosmetic items are handled in-game as of now is crappy as hell. Unless you have million gils, you cannot have it.
It's been three patches and still I can't have the Spring Dress because of the stupid price its materials are put at, and who knows when they'll be made easier to get.
I'd prefer hand over five bucks and get it.
Well, while I am not leaving this game because of this, I do think it is wrong of SE to take out items that would otherwise be on the market board and be seen as additional rewards for getting such a find ( and the feeling of getting something worth alot of gil). Is now shoved into the cash shop, and you can only get it if you buy it with real money.
It does hurt the game in an in-game economic way. The more this continues to happen, the more it will become and overall BIG issue.
Stuff like seasonal items/fantasia's are perfectly fine to sell on a cash shop. But not Mounts/Wind-up dolls/clothing that could otherwise be in content as rewards and people selling them on the MB.
It will become a economic issue if the cash shop becomes a "big hit".
Then you know wrong. If things worked the way you described it, you wouldn't be able to get the reideer costumes, the pumpkin heads, the red green blue gold silver bikinis, the plain yukatas, the valentine chokers and many more because they were from 1.0. Half, if not more, of the event items you can get from 2.0 until now are from 1.0. And SE gave new 2.0 players a chance to get them. Until now.
This right here is the only issue I've got with their store. Those items were available for gil and should remain that way. Then you know wrong. If things worked the way you described it, you wouldn't be able to get the reideer costumes, the pumpkin heads, the red green blue gold silver bikinis, the plain yukatas, the valentine chokers and many more because they were from 1.0. Insanity is a gradual process, don't rush it - Ford Prefect
Plenty of indie crap to be found on kickstarter, greenlit games, etc. if "creativity" is what you're looking for.
Let's not forget that SE wants more subs than they already have. The game design for 2.0 has been about welcoming new players and letting them catch up. Yoship said the same thing about the coming expansion next year. Let's think about what happens if you got a friend playing because of the expansion and an event like halloween comes around. Some new items are introduced but people are wearing the old event items for the festivities. Your friend sees it and wants it and ask you and others about how to get it. Then he finds out he can't get this week's halloween items without shelling out money even though 2.0-2.3 players were allowed to get all the 1.xx items. If the item is priced at 2.50 a piece, the witch set is already 10 dollars. If barding and earring is also 'only' 2.50, that's 5 dollars. 4 pumpkin heads 10 dollars. 2 ghost costumes for 10 dollars. That's what, 35 dollars that people have gotten for free before? You don't think that new player won't be disappointed and upset? What are you gonna do? Taunt him that he should have played since 2.0?
There's also a lot of players that are interested in 14 but are staying away from it because of the sub fee. They might cave in and want to try this game eventually but this cash shop IS extra repellent for those players.
ALSO: What's after halloween anyway? Christmas? The santa costume was a past event item and if it's going to be in the cash shop like the 1.0 and 2.0-2.3 event items.. How's THAT for the gifting spirit huh?

I'm fine with it, I'll prob buy the Sleipnir Mount only or something else I like. Many others MMO's sell items to customize your gear and blablabla, for example, Blade&Soul or even the "loved" World of Warcraft.
But the first step was made.
They said it won't be pay to win, but I remember Yoshi-P saying this game wont be p2p forever. If they start selling items to buffs to increase XP, +1 roll or lockout removals, I'll really be worried and will have reasons to cry.
We support SE by paying our subscription. I'm ok with them selling stuff we can get in game in the cash shop like the event items.
I dont like them selling exclusive items in the cash shop. So far it's just some minions, then it will be a mount, then an armor skin set or a weapon skin, costumes... it will just get worse as it has been in every mmo.
