Let's not forget that SE wants more subs than they already have. The game design for 2.0 has been about welcoming new players and letting them catch up. Yoship said the same thing about the coming expansion next year. Let's think about what happens if you got a friend playing because of the expansion and an event like halloween comes around. Some new items are introduced but people are wearing the old event items for the festivities. Your friend sees it and wants it and ask you and others about how to get it. Then he finds out he can't get this week's halloween items without shelling out money even though 2.0-2.3 players were allowed to get all the 1.xx items. If the item is priced at 2.50 a piece, the witch set is already 10 dollars. If barding and earring is also 'only' 2.50, that's 5 dollars. 4 pumpkin heads 10 dollars. 2 ghost costumes for 10 dollars. That's what, 35 dollars that people have gotten for free before? You don't think that new player won't be disappointed and upset? What are you gonna do? Taunt him that he should have played since 2.0?
There's also a lot of players that are interested in 14 but are staying away from it because of the sub fee. They might cave in and want to try this game eventually but this cash shop IS extra repellent for those players.
ALSO: What's after halloween anyway? Christmas? The santa costume was a past event item and if it's going to be in the cash shop like the 1.0 and 2.0-2.3 event items.. How's THAT for the gifting spirit huh?

I'm fine with it, I'll prob buy the Sleipnir Mount only or something else I like. Many others MMO's sell items to customize your gear and blablabla, for example, Blade&Soul or even the "loved" World of Warcraft.
But the first step was made.
They said it won't be pay to win, but I remember Yoshi-P saying this game wont be p2p forever. If they start selling items to buffs to increase XP, +1 roll or lockout removals, I'll really be worried and will have reasons to cry.

I think your last line sums it up
... this is nothing new in gaming, If anything its the current gaming model.
I think of you wanna pay out for a minion or mount, you should be able too.
I'm married with kids and a fulltime job I don't have the time to grind primals all day for a mount.

Agreed, if you wanna pay. that's why i'm ok with them selling stuff we can get ingame.
What about people who dont want to? The moment they put exclusive items in the cash shop the sentence changes a bit, but the meaning changes a lot.
"If you wanna pay for a minion or a mount, you should be able to" becomes "If you want that minion or that mount, you have to pay"
So the Fantasia costs exactly the same even though now it's only for the character and not for the account anymore? Well, that's not nice... I'm sure people asked for it to ONLY be for the character in hopes they would be cheaper that way...Greetings adventurer,
During the latest Live letter we accidentally mixed up the prices in EUR and GBP. Please see below for the correct prices.
1 Phial of Fantasia 7.00 EUR 5.75 GBP
3 Phials of Fantasia 19.60 EUR 16.10 GBP
5 Phials of Fantasia 31.50 EUR 25.88 GBP
[Minion] Y'shtola 3.50 EUR 2.88 GBP
[Minion] Yda 3.50 EUR 2.88 GBP
[Minion] Papalymo 3.50 EUR 2.88 GBP
[Armor] Pumpkin Head 2.10 EUR 1.73 GBP
[Armor] Unripened Pumpkin Head 2.10 EUR 1.73 GBP
[Armor] White Pumpkin Head 2.10 EUR 1.73 GBP
[Armor] Ripened Pumpkin Head 2.10 EUR 1.73 GBP
[Armor] The Howling Spirit 3.50 EUR 2.88 GBP
[Armor] The Wailing Spirit 3.50 EUR 2.88 GBP
We would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Other than that I think the prices are pretty high now and we can only hope that the previous event items will stay available for us to rebuy for GIL.
All in all I hope that the items in the cash shop will also be obtainable in the game without paying real money... because for some people vanity and cosmetic items are just as important as beating the game, and a p2p game should always provide the option to obtain EVERYTHING ingame for what they are already paying for.
Just tell us a little about where the profits will go - http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...rd-Development
So many people are concerned Cash Shop is a huge negative for development, dispel that rumor.
Or tell us if all these cash shop items will be available to earn in-game.

Where did it say Cash Shop Exclusive? Is this true? Possibly for Odin's mount, but that could change becoming a drop later on, with the usual 1% drop rate.
Although I for one am not exactly pleased by the whole idea of the cash shop. I can also see positives in it being here too.
Like I read from a post earlier, glamour items are pretty much ridiculous at this point, items for solely glamour purposes are ridiculously expensive and not available to everyone.
I wouldn't mind spending a couple of pounds on maybe a cool shirt or a new looking bow, all at level 1 for glamour, perhaps even some different dyes.
But I really don't like the idea of sticking things such as the Odin mount in there which is pretty much a big part of the game in general.
Minions and Mounts are collectible items in-game, they are even displayed on our Lodestone and thus they shouldn't be bought for real currency.
