Why wouldn't they?

They removed lock out, added echo and nerfs to 1st coil and they're removing lock out, adding echo and nerfs to 2nd coil
They added the UAT/sand/oil system to 2nd coil and they're keeping the same system for 3rd coil
They changed the myth cap from 300 to 450 when it was capped and they kept the same cap for soldiery and the next cap will probably the same

They're changing it so that you can't get past event items when the same type of event rolls around now and you still don't think the same thing won't happen next year?

After the PC release announcement for XIII I figured they'd bring back the event whenever LR gets released on Steam and again if XIII gets a re-release on PS4/Xbone but what you said now seems more likely.

The ghost costumes and Pumpkin heads are holiday items from last year. You can't get them from this event

Not really.. Only the ghost was from last year Halloween event. The pumpkin mask were from one of 1.0 Halloween events. That's why they were in a separate shop costing a mere 1 gil so everyone that didn't play 1.0 could get them. And if you did all events since 2.0 you noticed every event had those stuff for 1 gil in the shops right? Well then, they were all in 1.0. Most recent one before this was the yukatas in summer, the red black and blue were from old and then 2.0 added other 3 but with butterfly theme (red, pink and blue).

For what I can see happening is old event coming for the cash shop to give those new players a chance to get them if they wish.

But before this event, the new players had the chance to get them for gil from NPCs. Stop acting like SE is doing people favors by selling them for real money now.

The vendors didn't just sell 1.0 items. The Moonfire Faire 2014 vendor was selling the yukatas and swimsuits from 1.0, and even the newer 2.0 swimsuits from 2013 Moonfire Faire.
