In this game... I have no problems controlling the aggro, just spamming Provoke and Taunt.

Other stuff like Phalanx, Sentinel, War Drum, Warmonger, and even Ferocity (lol), Raging Strike (lol again) Foresight and Featherfoot, helps getting it.

There are lots of enmity skills you can use, ranking up other classes, Jarring Strike (Pug), Storm Path (Mrd)

Also, Accomplise, a Pugilist skill, lowers someone else enmity and transfers it to you.

You're saying NM, the Buffalo uses Sonorous Blast, which "resets" the hate. In that moment, everyone have to stay still, until you throw a few Provokes / Taunts.

It also helps if your party members occasionally use some of the enmity lowering skills and traits.

I never really played a tank on 11, so never understood how to hold hate. However liked the sound of Gladiator, so decided to give it a try. I found it really hard to hold hate post level 30, as almost any job ability triggered by another party member would pull hate from me instantly. I was chatting to an LS Leader in Mumble and having a moan about holding hate, and he told me that in 11, it was all about damage control, the least amount of damage you take, the more emnity you build up, who knew? SO i dicided to give that a try, spoke to party members at the start of fights that needed a tank, asked them not to engage until i had Taunted.

My method of gaining hate immediately is to run up to the mob, Heavy Strike, Provoke II, Taunt, Instant emnity. The party can now engage, and I never lose the hate. Deflection up to mitigate damage taken, more emnity. Once that wears Aegis Boon II, more emnity. Once that Wears Guard Up with Sentinel, more reduced damage, more emnity. I won't bother to go into all the other abilities equipped as thats down to personal preference, so long as you have those named above you should have no problem.

We fought Haughtpox Bloatbelly (sp) for the first time the other day. 1 Tank, me, I ran in War Drummed, Heavy Stabbed Bloatbelly, Provoked and Taunted. then the Off tank pulled one of the Goblin Braggadocio for the DD's to kill, there were 4 Mages, one to heal me, one to DOT the gobbies and the others healing the rest of the party. going through my routine of war drum, deflection, aegis boon II, guard and sentinel, by the time the DD's had kille dthe first one, the minor gobbies were dead from the DOTs, leaving Haughtpox and 2 Braggadocio. The off tank taunted away a Braggadocio and the DD's proceeded to pound, but it kept returning to me, I had built up so much emnity. In the end the DD's just pounded on the Mobs whilst they were pounding on me. It was awesome and so much fun.

I agree that the only NM thats a pain is Tarbh Uisge with Sonorous Blast, just ask party members before the fight, if sonorous blast procs disengage so you can taunt and provoke and get back hate.

Also, one thing you need to be aware of is that the initial action on a mob will not increase your hate on the mob. It will only claim the mob for your party. This is why you don't want to start a fight with provoke - you want to do some sort of other hostile action first, like attack, throw, disorient, etc to claim the mob first, then taunt, provoke, etc.

Also, for some reason, self-buffs like Raging Strike, Ferocity, Blind Side, Profundity, Blood Rite, Dark Seal, etc cause a lot of hate. Use those too if you have space on your action bar.

First of all Renta is crazy hawt.

Secondly, for hate on NM you can do a few things. First thing you can do is pick up Intimidation from Marauder as a previous poster mentioned. This requires you to accumulate 6,000 marauder guild marks from leves, and then you will get 2,000 from your level 20 Marauder quest which also allows you to purchase the trait.

Also, for multi-mob encounters you can pick up Warmonger from Marauder which you get at level 30. It's an AOE snap aggro taunt with a ~2 minute cooldown, however, it buffs your enmity generation for 30 seconds.

As far as how to hold hate, you can have your deeps wait for you to get 1-2 phalanx off, or....

Throw a dagger to get the hate list built, tag with a provoke and pop outmanuever. That gets you tp for phalanx + blocking, as it is about to drop, sentinel, all the while provoke/feint(lvl 20 lacer). I like to feather provoke and taunts in between so that deeps can go a bit harder on them.

Phalanx + Shield skills + Taunts + Defensive abilities should be more than enough to hold aggro. Don't spam Heavy stab. It's good when you have stamina to burn but you don't wanna be stuck regenerating stam!
