Cash shop worries

Seems like SE starts censoring threads which criticize or oppose the cash shop. At least one entire thread has been deleted within the last 24 hours.

Maybe because there's been like 50 of them already, including one at 117 pages which has devolved into F2P debates and what other games have done, etc.

I'm still deeply worried about this Cash Shop idea. It may start out as a way of acquiring items that are no longer obtainable, but do we really trust Square Enix to stop there? I do not. How long before 5 dollars will reset your raid-loot lockout for the week? Or they add teleport tokens to the cash shop? How long before there are mounts and minions that can only be bought? I'm already betting you'll have to pay for air-ship transportation to the floating islands if you don't have an FC that can handle it.
What's stopping them from making some consumable that can only be bought but is required to do top-tier raids?

I'm not altogether against having a cash shop. But I don't trust Square Enix's development team to resist the slippery slope that leads to pay-to-win.

teleport tokens to the cash shop isnt really a big deal and until you have mounts that you can actually use in combat instead of vanity that isnt a big deal either its just for vanity

So we reached this point now. Remember not too long ago, when Yoshi-P acted like he cares about the opinions of the player base and the community? Those times are obviously over. We're only cash cows now.

Don't be ridiculous. Why would they get rid of just the one thread and leave the others? They're not censoring anything.

I don't mind the idea of a cash shop for vanity items or previous event items. If they decide to add items in the future which would give players an advantage over others (new gear/weapons etc) then I would have a problem with that. Makes sense in a F2P MMO but not in one you pay a monthly sub for.

I know of an example of a subscription MMORPG with some cash shop items.

World of Warcraft.

They did it for minions vanity pets, mounts, and vanity items (they also have name change server change and character respec (race and class)). As long as SE keeps the cash shop to this it will be a good thing.
