Cash shop worries

So, the cash shop was just announced, and I like that you confirmed it was just going to be strictly vanity items.

But PLEASE keep on making decent FREE items for the game too, please don't stop making cool free items for subscribers, what I love about FFXIV is the amount of cool items you can collect through out the world. Just please please don't start putting all vanity items on the store, please just do it rarely, don't let it take away from the core FFXIV in anway.

I'm still deeply worried about this Cash Shop idea. It may start out as a way of acquiring items that are no longer obtainable, but do we really trust Square Enix to stop there? I do not. How long before 5 dollars will reset your raid-loot lockout for the week? Or they add teleport tokens to the cash shop? How long before there are mounts and minions that can only be bought? I'm already betting you'll have to pay for air-ship transportation to the floating islands if you don't have an FC that can handle it.

What's stopping them from making some consumable that can only be bought but is required to do top-tier raids?

I'm not altogether against having a cash shop. But I don't trust Square Enix's development team to resist the slippery slope that leads to pay-to-win.

If you got a good static/ fc then non of this should matter to u.
A competent static/fc has all content in reach technically.
Also being able to buy mounts with $$ is good cuz remember how rng likes to laugh at u lol.
Another thing that im glad they did was put previous seasonal vanity for sale which means there will be no point of reusing them for quest rewards etc for future seasonal events = more new buyable vanity ingame / rewards.

If SE messes up then they mess up.
Only ppl that should suffer is them as they would be losing a % of the playerbase = subs = $$$

I agree with Yumi_umi,

If SE establish a buffing-up shop, they will definitely gain new players (temporary) and lose the old ones who played the game from its release.
On another matter, already many players have used an indirect cash-shop, I mean the Digital Collector's Edition which is purely a buffing helmet & a vanity mount (fat choco) that cannot be obtained in any other means.
I just hope that implanting any cash-shop will not disturb the balance of the game, it will be a pity to abandon a great game.

Just a reminder, SE is a company that wants to gain profit by selling entertainment and fun time, so they have the right to do so. Their challenge is to maintain the balance between players since FFXIV is an MMO game. Vanity items is a type of thanks for extra supporting the game development & continuity since the game's life will be until that time where income cash can not cover development/server/wages/profit gains (why? that's another subject).

Everything In the cash shop should be obtainable in game through some work. Otherwise it's going to keep causing a fuss. Example, Odin mount should be dropping from Odin primal battle (upon release of Odin battle).

So we reached this point now. Remember not too long ago, when Yoshi-P acted like he cares about the opinions of the player base and the community? Those times are obviously over. We're only cash cows now.
