Oh damn it, that was a typo. I meant latter.
I know we do not choose what happens, I was replying to Xairos's comment that "the funds for [SE's Fan Fest and video card giveaways] had to come from something." He was using that expense as an excuse for why SE needed more money, and therefore was justified in implementing a cash shop into FFXIV and not just being greedy. He was making it out to sound like we actually got something out of it as recompense, which is a load of BS. The two things are not even related anyhow, but assuming the Fan Fest was even partially a reason SE needed to form a cash shop, that is an unbelievably irresponsible use of funds. Apparently, this game is just barely hanging on, by a thread?
Are they trying to take another huge hit? Because it sure seems like they are going looking for trouble. You would think if they are still "in the red" despite over 2 million players handing them a sub fee every month, they would want to play it safe for a while and not alienate the players they have. Instead, they barely made it a year before the last drop of humility the company had left has boiled away. Frankly, they seem ungrateful for purchases and subscriptions, to be asking for more money already.

No I got what you meant. Give them money so they can do more things. But I'm already doing that when I buy the game and pay my monthly subscription.
See comment above. No one is asking them to be a charity. We pay a monthly subscription fee.
I think a lot of you are forgetting the huge hit they took with 1.0, resources and time lost, rebuilding the game, restructuring their company, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if they were still in the red from 1.0 and not quite recovered.
Anyone who defends this EA Games maneuver probably also defends on-disc DLC
Shameful.
The fact that they produced a bad product and had to suffer the financial consequences is not the fault of the playerbase nor is it our responsibility to bail them out of it.

This is exactly how I feel. First personal housing which was a complete and utter disappointment to me. Now a cash shop. Its like SE is reading my mind of all the stuff I don't want and doing it.Well I see. Since the housing disappointment I don't have any motivation to join the game again.
If this really is confirmed, it does not make anything better.
For a moment I was thinking SE is on a good track since years. But if they keep the direction I see many people leaving the game.
(Sry for bad english)
I fail to see how that's my problem. If they want money put out a good product. If you don't put out a good product, don't try to "make up for it" by taking advantage of the people wanting to get a good product.
And even with the "loss" on 1.0, SE is still ticking and making millions so don't ask me to dry their tears.
Your right, it's not the fans fault, but can you really blame them to try to gain back what they lost? I am not for the cash shop mind you, but I do understand the leaps and bounds SE had to do to get FFXIV ARR here. They did a miraculous thing with FFXIV ARR ( at the cost of alot of money). TBH it's only natural this kind of thing would happen. I just hope after getting some of the money back, that they will stop the cash shop eventually.
