You are getting extra stuff that you didn't have before ever think of it that way? They can put more money into adding more extras in the game that wouldn't of existed otherwise.
and then charge you for said extras!
Everything, EVERYTHING that would have gone into the game will now go into the cash stop instead. Stop pretending that this cash shop is mysteriously going to cause them to develop more non-cash shop items or that the items that are going into the cash shop weren't going to be included into the game before the cash shop. Basically you're just paying for the items that your subscription cost should pay for.
Slepnir has existed in the game as a mount in beta, there was a Dev Blog a while back with a dev playing with it. He has to for Odin to work properly, as Odin takes the appearance of a player. Recently it was added back in as a proper player mount, as you can find on XIVDB as they datamined it. Slepnir was most likely going to be a rare drop from Odins Extreme Trial when it's put it in. They have cut it off to sell in the cash shop.
With the first items in the cash shop they have, with Slepnir, already set a precedent to remove content that was going to be in the game and sell it instead. Won't be surprised if the Minions were also meant to be in the game as a seasonal reward too like Minifilia and Thancred were. Now whenever they add items to the cash shop, the first question will be, were these actually taken out of the game to be sold instead of being obtainable in the game?
It has NEVER EXISTED AS AN OBTAINABLE ITEM. EVER. The blog you mentioned stated specifically to not pay attention to it because it was just playing with dev tools. Try as you might, you can't pretend that SE is taking content out of the game lol. Good try though. Did you know? The horse and Odin are two separate entities for programming purposes?
(Something else they explained, by the way.)

The sad part is actually that we won't be able to stop it at this point unless people make big riots on every server or something.
The only thing SE would understand clearly is subs tanking like an iron weight into the Marianas trench....
... but people are both too addicted to the game and too attached to the characters they've invested thousands of hours into in order to abandon it all to make a protest of that magnitude.
And even if 10% of the subs quit, the remaining players who buy anything and everything the cash shop offers will make up the difference, and then some.
It'd also be very silly to quit for something that doesn't affect you at all in-game.The only thing SE would understand clearly is subs tanking like an iron weight into the Marianas trench....

It doesn't affect you, clearly. But it affects the rest of us. I have to ask, did you at least read the recent pages?
Things that available only in the cash shop and not in game affect everyone. It is not a simple "if you don't like it don't use it" because it's something that we don't get anymore that would have been in the game. Where our monthly subscription fee would have allowed us to obtain these items through playing the game we no longer can and can only get them through paying more money.
Clearly vanity items to you mean nothing and everyone else shouldn't care about them either because the core of the game is still there and it's not pay to win.
But the way you play =/= everyone else's. Many people play to collect these things and to do everything BUT fight in dungeons or do raids or get gear.
