Because that is precisely what they have done here. You seriously don't see the problem with this? They are cutting content they developed using YOUR SUB and asking people to pay AGAIN for it.

I don't, because it is items I do not need to play the game.

It's funny how much you people blow this out of proportion when no MMORPG as of 2014 has done this unless it was already doing it from the start. It's time to get over it and realize this is optional and will be optional. Hey did I have to buy Second Coil gear or decent graphics after they added Fantasias to the Mog Station...the cash shop that already existed? Did i have to buy Ramuh's fight and gear after they added purchasable Retainers?

Take a look at the Sleipnir mount. It's already in game, the model is already in use. This also could have been a reward from the Odin trial when it's added to the live servers.

Instead they have cut a mount that already has a model on the live servers to sell separately elsewhere. Notice that they have done NO extra work to produce this mount for the cash shop as it already exists in the game as Odin's mount, and since Odin can spawn as any race there is one already scaled appropriately for every race.

I'm willing to overlook it when they claim that a separate team produced cash shop fluff specifically to be sold as an extra but the Sleipnir mount is blatantly cut content just to cash in on some extra money.

Please don't claim it 'doesn't harm anyone' when they have so obviously removed content that EVERYONE could have enjoyed to sell it to a few that cough up extra for it.

A cash shop is nothing like buying a soundtrack that comes with a code for an in-game item. The soundtrack/book/doll/etc has value beyond just a slip of paper inside. Someone may buy the item solely for the code, but that doesn't take away the fact that you are paying for and investing in more than just that one aspect of the purchase.

I'm very disappointed that they are going this route. The pricing is steep and we don't even know yet how much the mount is. That they didn't feel comfortable putting that on the slide but showing us that minions would be $5 and past year's holiday outfits would be $3 (instead of an in-game gil sink option), says quite a bit to me about how comfortable they feel about the plan as a whole. They were afraid to tell a live crowd face to face.

I have friends who have already cancelled their subs. Double dipping is unacceptable. So long as they take a monthly subscription fee from their players, a cash shop is an insult to every one of us.

I will never purchase an item from this cash shop, and encourage you all to do the same.
