$25.00 slepnir mount. Anyone care to clarify this?
I bet there will be premium wards next, just because they can get a bit more money over a Ill conceived housing plan of their making.
As they say in politics: never waste a good crisis.

I'm beginning to think that these new items...
...are some sort of sick higher-criticism metanarrative on what SE expects to be able to sell to its players.

Since the cash shop is here to stay, it really needs the ability to gift items to other players.
Y'all realize that the dictionary isn't the be-all end-all of using a word right, right? We still have "gay" listed as meaning "lighthearted and carefree". Extortion is a very specific legal term in modern parlance. Are we also gonna defend using the phrase "solid d*ck" because it's 1950's slang for "straight talk"?
The legal definition of extortion is much more complicated. And wrongly claiming it's being done is also termed as slander.![]()

Yes it does, just thought a "free" surprise extra that wasn't part of the initial deal was an odd example to use.Yes but to get that fat chocobo, you would've had to buy or have been brought the collectors edition and then registered it to your account. Only reason you've got the fat chocobo later was because it was part of the CE for the ps4 and then the fat chocobo was given to all people who had previously registered a CE to their account.
So tocsin point still stands that a normal sub doesn't get you a fat chocobo.
Anyway, I think people are slightly talking past each other. Everyone has known from the beginning that the game + sub doesn't get you everything due to the Collectors Edition existing, however a Collectors Edition is very rarely the beginning of the end for a game. I'm struggling to think of an example of a subscription game adding a cash shop resulting in the game becoming better overall.
If the cash shop items were tradeable in game I think the whole issue would cease to exist.
SE gets that precious "whale" money, your poorer subscribers can still get the items through grind, the impact of gil sellers is lessened as SE effectively steps into the market, and people don't have to worry about development time be diverted to the cash shop.
Extra money for SE, less gil sellers and all the content available to everyone, it's win/win/win (items & vanity are content people, especially in a game as pretty as FFXIV.)

We would've gotten these new minions in game...
If only they would lower the sub now
Or we may have not at all.
See they could of made the items with the Cash shop solely in mind. If the cash shop did not exist neither would those items. So if they only decided to make those minions to launch their cash shop we would possibly never of saw them in game ever. As will be the possibility with any other minions and mounts in the future which appear in the cash shop.
See I can do baseless speculation as well. Although the point stands, that if they make any items solely with cash shop in mind, then those items would never appear in the game without the existence of the cash shop in first place.
Also I doubt they'll lower the subs. These are "Optional items" which is covered by the terms and conditions you agreed to when you started playing this game. It with in billing that SE may if they wish, charge additional fees for optional services and add ons. Which cash shop items would fall under.
Like it or not I doubt the cash shop is going anywhere. There is enough slepnir mounts running around at present to show them that they have a market for it now.

Considering we were had a number of the major NPCs obtainable in game for no extra cash price before this cash shop idea happened, I'm pretty certain they would have eventually existed too. That isn't "baseless speculation" it is based on the continual implementation of more NPC mounts... Cash shop reared it's horrible, disgusting head, and now things that SHOULD and WOULD be in game, are now cash shop exclusive, and will remain so, as apparently, enough people are happy to pay EXTRA for things that should be in game.
Well done on completely missing the point. Sure mounts/minions were added before the cash shop. I never disputed that. They will still be added alongside the cash shop. As was evident by new minions & mount in 2.4 patch alongside the cash shop optionals.

You do not know what would or should of been in the game. But if a mount/minion was developed for the cash shop, there is no guarantee that mount/minion would of ever appeared in the game with out the cash shop existence. It certainly wouldn't if the driving factor for it development was the cash shop in the first place.
