Is FFXIV up against the clock?

The 3DS did "flop", that's why they were forced to drop the price faster than i've ever seen done to a console, and not by a small amount. Mind you, they're plenty in time to turn things around, but the fact that launch was unsuccessful is simply a fact.

It's pretty bad to say it failed just as badly as the VB did which simply isn't true, though I guess it's just the new generation version of the term "flop" considering 3DS is stuck in a typical cycle that happens when consumers decide to wait for something to get it, which then in turn makes developers wait to support the system because they don't see fan demand for it being high. They pushed it out way too soon, but the sales on Zelda OoT 3D kind of shows it didn't "flop", just doing poorly, especially given it was way overpriced.

It is a bad launch, no one denied that, but a fail on the size on VB? Far from it honestly.

I see XIV at a stand still.

It will get a few new people now and then, maybe returning players, and it will also lose just as much players also.

I know XIV will suffer when new games get released, no matter time it is, but the effects will be so small because the population is small to begin with lol. Its like a few people going home early at a party or a few strangers turn up, do you really notice it? Does it even make a difference? Party still sucks.

lol at the trolls spouting hyperboles and trying to convince everyone that this game has "10 players" (because they are probably convinced that if they repeat some crap enough times it magically becomes true).

Funny that I've seen the same people spelling doom for this game over and over for the last 9 months, with every release of any even slightly hyped game, and those people have been proven wrong time and time again. Looks like the solid improvements FXIV is getting and the people coming back are sending them in a panic and they're trying to spread some more FUD.

Sorry mates. This game isn't going to "die", as much as you'd love to see that. It's improving faster than any other on the market, and people are coming back to it and will continue to do so, despite you continuing to troll the forums and publicizing other games like your life depended on them. It must be quite unpleasant for you to be completely inconsequential, that's why you come here everyday to drool all that venom.

What this game really needs are moderators working on the week end to close rubbish off topic threads like this.

not everyone likes Star Wars or cares to play BioWare games.. I don't like Action MMO style games, thus I don't play their RPG's.. i thought KOTOR was terrible.. i prefer traditional JRPG's... FFXIV will be here 10 years from now.. nothing to see here keep moving kids.

With a certain major game going into Beta as of 10am PST how many will continue to give FFXIV a fighting chance? I want the game to succeed i really do but overall the updates are slow and the Dungeons just do not provide enough of a challenge. No Other methods of transportation, grinding is still not that fun, etc etc

This game has a lot to overcome but with Blizzard now pushing its next major release can FFXIV overcome the odds? Or will it now be a ticking time bomb with only a possible few months left to recover.

Since this thread is not really taking the direction i was looking for let me modify the post to say how many of you are interested in Diablo III, and with it going into Beta now will you start looking more in that direction, or with the current changes to the game post 1.18 is it enough for you to see SE is making changes and believes in the game.

I wouldn't call it a Doomsday thread, but to be fair this marks the 8th or 9th thread I have seen since 14's release that has someone saying that an upcoming game soon to be released could kill this game. I have been playing this game since the beta, and I currently play on one of the lowest populated servers, and there are more people on now than there were at launch. I don't think any game will "kill" this game.

Diablo III isn't really close to the same style of game as FFXIV with the exception that it too could be called fantasy. Granted, there are similarities to be sure but I think that an action RPG and an MMO are two completely different animals. The only thing that can "kill" FFXIV is SE, not some other wanna-be dungeon crawler that Blizzard has been promising will come out for the past decade. Rift couldn't do it, DCU couldnt do it, Star Wars sure as hell won't do it, and neither will some old school hack and slash classic remake.

FFXIV have potential, but the worst enemy of ffxiv are ffxi fans, they want old tedius things in this new game
made more content for new player, not for ffxi fans

Since this game will have a separate PS3 release, I don't think it has a time limit yet. If PS3 turns out to be good and have good reviews, people will start looking this way. If PS3 version doesn't deliver, then it has limited time.

This game is very WIP even though it is retail already.



3DS 'flopped' because there isn't many games on it yet and a console isn't worth much without games. Especially a handheld. It might turn out to be a success once more games are released.

rofl Diablo III =/= mmo, so i don't think it's gonna pull away anybody that wasn't already going to leave in the near future.

I've been on FFXIV since it came out, and even though I don't play it as much as I should, I'll still go back to it. I'm playing at least 3-4 other games besides ffXIV right now, and I *still* get on whenever I can.

So I don't think any new BIG game that comes out will suck people away from FFXIV for good. At least, not me ^^;

I should mention though that there is an upcoming MMO called Secret World which I'm eager to try..and even if it turns out to be the most fun thing ever, I'll still come back to XIV XD A mix of having awesome friends on it and the occasional new, fun patch keeps me playing 14.
