They are probably going to go back and put dex on all monk gear so it will have both dex and str.

Probably due to the look monk and ninja have traditionally had a similar look and always shared a lot of gear for example in FFXI. Bard gear doesn't have the martial arts look to it. The only benefit monk will get from dex being on their gear is some more parry which isn't a big issue because if the monk is tanking because the tank is dead you will die soon anyway.
Bard gear isn't exactly "Far Easternish" (Martial Arts). I mean how many sets in game really have a martial arts look? Just the Fuma set. It's a one off justification for that set, as it was already heavily Ninja-esque.
Anyways, if you are a main Bard right now, you have an advantage on obtaining gear; reaching i110 at the drop of 2.4 will be relatively quick and painless.

Im perfectly ok with this. All jobs 50 so time to borrow brd accessories and farm some fuma. What id like to know is if we will ever see "enhances x ability, trait or spell" on gear ever again once the level cap is up there. The move to add dex to monk gear seems to lean that way to me

like for allagan, soldiery gear. stuff like that.Bard gear isn't exactly "Far Easternish" (Martial Arts). I mean how many sets in game really have a martial arts look? Just the Fuma set. It's a one off justification for that set, as it was already heavily Ninja-esque.

the generic stuff that already exists and fits its own theme. fuma is an exception, but couldn't they just add a recolored fuma for ninja?

I doubt they'd do that, considering Fuma is Ninja specific in FF3, that much I can be sure of because they seem to like to keep FF to its roots to an extent. I'm sure the introduction of 3.0 jobs, Fuma gear, the community opinion, and the current in game tooltips all influenced why their decision for the stat, whatever it may be took so long.
They could have, and it wouldn't have been unheard of (MNK & BRD 2.3 tomestome gear being recolors of each other; DRG & MNK sharing the same image of Syrus Tower gear, but having different stats). Fuma, while indicative of Ninja historically (Fūma Kotarō, famed Ninja leader in the Edo Japan period), has been armor that could been used by not only Ninja, but also Monks and Samurai in Final Fantasy XI (even if it's only feet armor). It might have caused a fiasco in Japan over historics if they didn't apply Fuma to Ninja, however.
It's just a far easier option to apply Ninja to everything that Monk wears in a blanket fashion, so they don't have to go back and make individual sets for Ninja at every level. You have to consider that there's multiple i70, i80, and i90 sets available now as well in addition to i100 and i110 sets. This covers them across the board and allows for them to start off Ninja-specific armor with patch 2.4.

Dev's just need to clarify what they say simply to put everyone at ease. Luckily I have a geared MNK and BRD and their accessories, so ready for anything.

As I mentioned in another thread, a lot of people forget that a lot of caster gear has both INT and MND on it, even though they do completely different things, because it's shared by 2 different jobs. It's not farfetched to have STR and DEX on gear when it's serving a purpose for 2 different jobs.
Them going back and adding DEX to previous gear is a lot simpler than re-balancing MNK. All they have to do is take whatever the STR value is and copy+paste it for DEX.
