FF14 not taken seriously in the MMO market???

I was browsing MMOChampion earlier and a particular thread caught my eye.

    http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...uot-competitor

If you read through the thread people there pretty much have no idea of FF14's existence and one poster even goes so far as saying that he thought heavensward was the title of a f2p browser game.

Now I realise that MMOChamp is primarily a wow fansite but there is a lot of discussion of other mmos except FF barely gets a mention in those discussions.

So what's the go? Is the NA and EU such a tiny part of the subs with the majority being in japan? Do SE need to market more in NA? Its like the posters don't even know that FF is 12 months on still with a sub and an expansion has been announced.

    Thoughts on the matter?

Since I am a one MMO kind of person I don't know a thing about new and upcoming expansions, patches or blah blah on other MMOs.

Maybe other people are like that too?

Since oyu frequest the place you could make a nice introductory post about FFXIV ^^ ?

The guy that said that doesn't really seem to be into MMOs in general, just WoW, he says FFXIV and STO isn't taken seriously, but they are both very popular games (obviously STO is a very niche MMO). FFXI was seen as a successful, and serious MMO, and FFXIV has more subs than FFXI did at this time in it's lifecycle.

I think on sites like that, casual mmos gain a little stigma.

Naturally we (NA/EU) have more total subs than Japan. We have more people than they do. Those players are just only into WoW and the most mainstream stuff you see on the net. Even WoW players don't like WoW anymore. Most of those guys just have dem blinders on. I wouldn't let it get you down.

I'd say it's more like FFXIV tends to fly under the radar. People don't talk about it, but then one person mentions it in passing and a bunch of other people remember it exists and go "oh yeah, that game, I heard that's pretty good now." It's not necessarily a bad thing I don't think. The game has had a lot of time to grow and improve outside of the spotlight and I think that's been good for tempering expectations. As others have said too, most players tend to stay in the bubble of their MMO and news from others passes them by.

The people that know FFXIV exists and actually play it are the people that matter and the people we all want as a part of the Eorzean community. Don't worry about everyone else.

To be fair though, it's not that XIV isn't taken seriously, it's just...what does XIV ARR bring to the table beyond being a relaunch? I can load up Maplestory and the base updates (.40-.80) still has more uniqueness and interesting concepts whereas XIV ARR struggles in even copying WoW's setup completely (and trying to deny it is calling Yoshida a liar as he said numerous times during development he wants to basically follow WoW for this game like they did EQ for FFXI.)

So it's taken seriously in that it's a new MMO and you either play it or not..however...it's really nothing.."special" when it comes to the MMO market. It's not like XI back in the day that took aspects of an older MMO and just..dominated it to the point you never thought you were playing "the same MMO over and over" again.
