    Battle Companion Ideas

    So on the menu, the tab was always called "Companions" instead of just "Companion" so I was always led to believe that we would eventually get other types of battle companions.

    Retainers: Duh! People have proposed this one before so I am going to skip right over it. I would think they would have the most customization options.

    Additional chocobos: Probably from breeding, whenever that gets introduced. They\\'d function similarly to the chocobos we already have, but since we breed them they might have more customizable stats than GC chocobos.

    Beast tribe allies: This is my main new idea! If/when they ever increase the cap for beast tribe quest ranks, I think battle companions would be cool to buy at the highest ranks. How cool would it be to have an Amal\\'jaa attacker, or a Sylph healer, or any other beastman fighting at your side? We could probably even give them names and such and it\\'d be cool if there were sidequests involving them as actual characters we could do too

    Plus, maybe we could combine these all together and bring them into solo dungeon runs! They already said they\\'re looking into content like that, and I can\\'t imagine going into big dungeons with only our chocobo at our side. (I know they\\'re adjusting the difficulty for solo dungeon content, but it\\'s still a cool idea).

    Thoughts?

    I remember in 1.0 (which I never played) that they had these humanoid NPC companions you could recruit and have them follow you around and stuff. Would be interesting to see them return.

    Ah, I forgot about this. Well, it'd be nice to see battle companions aside from the mounts we have.

    Yeah, those path companions are basically the reason why everyone wants their retainers helping in battle. The only difference was that path companions also followed you around through the main storyline.

    I like the beastmen idea, but I would vastly prefer it was rewarded from a quest (or series of quests) where we meet them and become companions. As opposed to reaching max rank and then hiring a beastmen mercenary.

    I'd separate them into:
    Sylph-healer
    Amalj'aa-tank
    Sahagin-melee
    Kobold-Physical ranged
    Ixal-Magic ranged

    Of course each of those is up for debate, and if they added more beastmen to interact with, there could be even more: goblin, mamool'ja, qiqirn, spriggan, just to name a few (though some of these may not technically be beastmen, I'm under the impression they're all semi-civilized). Then each of them could have 2-3 trees similar to the chocobo companion for further specialization: more abilities, reduced cooldown times, increased base stats, increased ability effectiveness, different role types of abilities, etc.

    Actually. After I wrote down spriggan, I would really love to have a spriggan companion, ideally one about as tall as myself. Yes. Yes. That would be nice.

    If we ever have an Orator class/job (see FFT), then maybe we could have captured monsters as companions.

    Also: Companion Moogles! I want a Kupo following me around!

    I like the idea of each tribe fulfilling a different role in a party! I also agree that it would be cool to have them as actual companions you bond with through quests like you suggested, but the way I imagined it is that you hire them as mercenaries or whatever through the Beast Tribe quests and then you unlock another string of quests centering around your beastman companion where you actually get to know them afterward.

    Either way, both would be awesome!

    I would imagine captured monsters would function more as pets, similar to Carbuncle and the Egis, than actual battle companions.

    But a moogle companion would be awesome, too!
