    Returning and Re learning

Hi everyone! My names Alex, I am an original player from 1.0, a beta player and day 1 player for ARR. I was overhyped for ARR and was really sad about all the changes I missed the open world transitions and the world felt so much larger in 1.0 I quit after month 1 and a year later came back I joined some friends and we rushed through the story. I didn't really learn a lot though nor did I really pay attention to the story.

I want to re make a character, Enjoy the story better and fully and get into the "end game" stuff.

I have a handful of questions that anyone can answer. thanks in advance ^^

    1. What class should I go with? DPS isn't too bad I hear because in dungeon search you search all worlds in the server?
    2. Controller or KB+M ? I played with controller and imo the game works fine with it but I got a lot of hate for it.
    3. What server do I join? I just kinda wanna relax and enjoy the game.

Thanks for reading =) Ask me anything if ya like!

As for which class to go with, I recommend doing all of them at least through the early levels. Then just pick whichever you're enjoying most to continue through the higher levels. Lots of people act as though it's a decision they have to make right at the outset, but that initial decision when you create your character is just about which class you'll take through the first 10 levels first and which city you'll do the first 15 levels in. It may or may not end up being your main class. Actually, since you're a returning player, I'd recommend choosing a starting city first (perhaps a different one than where you started before) then pick a starting class from among that city's classes. Which city's storyline you get for the first 15 levels is a bigger difference than which class you're playing during that time (given that you can chance classes later, but only get one city's story).

The Duty Finder is cross-server, bringing in players from all servers within your Data Center, and Duty Roulette gives players bonuses for filling in whichever groups need people. That's pretty well taken care of the issues we started having early on with multi-hour wait times. Now even DPS get in in typically something like 15-20 minutes during peak hours. Tanks frequently get instant queues and healers not much longer. It is a bit more of a wait for DPS, but not too bad if you play during a popular time of day. At off-hours it may be a bit longer.

Controller works fine. I do suggest playing around with the target filter options to see what works best for you there. Tab targeting (with either keyboard or controller) doesn't follow a very logical order, but if you adjust the targeting filters to select only enemies or only players depending on what you're doing, it works well enough.

As for servers, I like Coeurl, but then again, I haven't tried the others, so I'm rather biased. Coeurl seems quite friendly. There are lots of people around, usually including lots of new characters. (From what I've heard, that seems to be true of most servers, but I can only say it from personal experience for Coeurl.)

Since you've already played the game, you have a good idea about how the classes and dungeons work already. And that's accounting for almost a year's worth of absence.

DPS queues can be long, and I suspect they will get much longer once patch 2.4 hits. Currently, most queues for DPS are 20-30 minutes, while tanks are nearly instant. Healers are maybe 10 minutes at most. These times are generalizations and will change depending on what time you log in.
Of the two tanks, Marauder is easier if you are simply leveling up. They get their main tank mechanics faster and it is easier to keep enmity for speedruns using overpower. These overall make smoother dungeon runs, which will be useful if you're grinding them for levels between quests.
Healing you already know, but you're welcome to give arcanist a try. It is very different from WHM and it allows you to pursue both a healer and dps class you can switch between for solo and party play.
As for dps, thaumaturge and archer are probably the easiest to handle.

Either/Or is fine, although I find that healing benefits the most from KB+M more simply because of the versatility of the mouseover macro. It is a personal preference though.

As for servers, Leviathan and Coeurl both seem to be good choices. They're both active servers with lowbie-friendly players. If you choose Levi though, give me a notice. I'll send some starting gear to help you start up.
