A heal over time healer would be nice, and I think it would mesh well with scholar/white mage.
I think it would need the spell shell though, since if we have three healers to pick from it would always be white mage (enhanced protect), and scholar/new healer. That way if a group wanted to do a new healer/scholar combo, the scholar could use protect, and the new healer could use shell!
This isn't exactly true. Swords, certainly, but not greatswords. The only game where Dark Knights have used greatswords was FFXI. Greatswords were always linked to Knights and Paladins, with weapons like Excalibur counted among them. The most classic Dark Knight weapon is actually the katana, the weapon type they used in FFIII. Even Cecil's dark swords used katana sprites prior to the DS remake. Other than that, they have mostly used one-handed swords, though Cecil could also equip axes.Because this isn't FFXI (the only game where Dark Knights used Scythes).
Normally they are dps, yeah, but they generally wield a sword (normal and Great) in every Final Fantasy title except XI. (Though they can also use swords and Greatswords in XI, scythe is typically the main weapon due to it's higher weapon score)
Even that image of FFX-2 you posted shows Rikku using Masamune, a katana, and Yuna using Caladbolg, a one-handed sword.
What part wasn't true? I said they generally wield a sword. Swords are a rather vast category because, well, there are just so many different types of them.
Typically it's a one handed sword of some kind (insert vast amount of 1 handed sword types than can by design also be used in a two-handed technique).
All of those X-2 swords were quite large, more so than normal 1 handed swords that are intended for use in just one hand. Looking at the X-2 swords I would say they all take 2 hands to use with technique and ease. One handed on swords of that size would be risky.
Well, you said "swords (normal and great)." It's true to say swords, but greatswords is the part that wasn't exactly true.
Also, you're actually not quite right when talking about X-2 swords. All of Rikku and Yuna's swords in that game were taken from FFX. Yuna uses the Brotherhood as a Warrior, and the Caladbolg as a Dark Knight. Both of those are swords used by Tidus in FFX, and he always used them one-handed (he used a small buckler in his left hand). They're one-handed swords as far as the games themselves are concerned. They're not really that different from the large one-handed swords in FFXIV like Curtana either.
I like the idea of ffxiv to giv dark Knight 2 h swords. And honestly i want his counterpart with HOLY powers not paladin. Because paladin here its not at all the counterpart of drk since paladin dosent have any holymagic based spell. Pld its just defensive. We need HOLY KNIGHT or something like that to have the counterpart of drk. And i would love it xQ__
From what I know, Dark Knight will be using greatswords. I actually like that, as well. It sounds interesting.
As for other classes, after thinking about stuff I've encountered while playing in the areas of Ishgard currently accessible, I'm very curious to see if Time Mage might fit as an Ishgardian job, based on their Astrologian/Astrologer for the base Class. There might be some precedent, if Ishgard will be receiving its own classes when it becomes accessible, like with Gridania, Limsa Lominsa, and Ul'dah.
I'd also love to see Samurai, especially since they've already added Ninja, which hopefully opens the way lore-wise for further classes and jobs such as that from the Far East. (That and some of the species in the expansion seem to have an Asian or even Japanese design feel to them.)
Additionally, I'm curious if Privateer is still slated, and if it will be added in Heavensward as well.

Honestly i have to wonder how useful Dark knight will be as a tank, it's clear Yoshida wants classes to have more of a multi-function to them but so far we've not really seen this to be the case. Warrior certainly feels like a tank/dps but it's technically a tank for all intensive purposes, i just don't really see a reason for another tank as things stand. And i say this as someone who loves Dark Knight as a class in other FF games, i would hate to see them undervalued as tanks that aren't as great at tanking compared to Warriors and Paladins, but perhaps deal slightly more dps overall to make up for it.
I just keep asking myself what they would bring to the table, Ninja's are unique in the sense that they're able to engage in melee and ranged combat just fine. Perhaps if Dark knight's could be self sufficient in tanking by draining life from mobs to lessen the heals needed from healers, and also that life draining acting as an income for additional dps. Even then i'm still not convinced it'll be anything other than a flashy new suit of armour to prance around in. I wish SE had released Dark knight first instead of warrior, it would've been a much cooler dynamic with the whole 'Holy' and 'Dark' Tank theme, but we'll see how it works out.
