    Ishgardian classes

Okaay as we all know Heavensward is coming this spring (which is bye the bye a pretty short wait for an expansion that was just announced) and ammong other things we will get Ishgard as a fully functional city state.

In terms of classes that means at the very least:
    - one DoM
    - one DoW(usually two, but Limsa only had one till ninja)
    - one DoL
    - two DoHs(Limsa and Ul'dah have three, but Gridania has only two)

The two new fighting classes also mean two new jobs at the very least.

Nothing has been officially revealed as far as I know, but Dark Knight(Batman!) is taken for granted by some sites

Now the question is not what people would want, but what would fit thematically with Ishgard?

I for example think Samurai is wishfull thinking at best, but Blue Mage could be a logical answer to the dravanian threat.

What about crafting and gathering? What is the market niche that can and should be filled?

The said they want to get a tank and healer class with the expancion so if DRK is not a tank we may get more than just 2 classes.

I love the official forums, they tell you to use the search for thread about what you wanted to talk but when you use it they judge for necro a thread.

Because this isn't FFXI (the only game where Dark Knights used Scythes).

Normally they are dps, yeah, but they generally wield a sword (normal and Great) in every Final Fantasy title except XI. (Though they can also use swords and Greatswords in XI, scythe is typically the main weapon due to it's higher weapon score)

This isn't exactly true. Swords, certainly, but not greatswords. The only game where Dark Knights have used greatswords was FFXI. Greatswords were always linked to Knights and Paladins, with weapons like Excalibur counted among them. The most classic Dark Knight weapon is actually the katana, the weapon type they used in FFIII. Even Cecil's dark swords used katana sprites prior to the DS remake. Other than that, they have mostly used one-handed swords, though Cecil could also equip axes.

Even that image of FFX-2 you posted shows Rikku using Masamune, a katana, and Yuna using Caladbolg, a one-handed sword.

What part wasn't true? I said they generally wield a sword. Swords are a rather vast category because, well, there are just so many different types of them.

Typically it's a one handed sword of some kind (insert vast amount of 1 handed sword types than can by design also be used in a two-handed technique).

All of those X-2 swords were quite large, more so than normal 1 handed swords that are intended for use in just one hand. Looking at the X-2 swords I would say they all take 2 hands to use with technique and ease. One handed on swords of that size would be risky.

Yeah. I just gathered what I assumed to be the minimum that we can expect. For all we know, the class number could be doubled.

Only the classes have to be tied to Ishgard. Nothing suggests old classes can't get second job crystals that come from somewhere else.

Since DK is seen as the dark counterpart of Paladin, it is a safe bet that it is also a tank.

That is very true. Even now only Gladiator/Paladin and Conjurer/White Mage are the only class/job combinations directly linked to classes' starting city.

Dark Knight is more often an offensive heavy armor melee frontliner with semi-tanking capabilities. It tends to share offensive duties with the Monks and Dragoons.

Isnt Black Mage also a class connected to it's city state? (AKA: Ul'dah)

I can see the new classes being released for the 3.0 build being linked significantly to Ishgard. Dark Knight especially since the Holy See of Ishgard may start reviving old and/or forbidden art's and magic's so they can combat the looming Dragon horde's and the possible awakening of Niddhog (or whoever the evil elder Dragon (not Bahamut) was)

Yes. Now the question is, what classes make sense? I for one think that Samurai doesn't. As much as I love samurai, as everything else related to japanese culture, it would be totally alien in Ishgard.
