Tab Targeting - Should start with closest enemy

It seems crazy to me how tab targeting works in this game. In basically every other MMO every created, when you tab to target an enemy, the closest enemy in front of you is highlighted first. This is quite literally the industry standard, the most intuitive, what everyone wants to happen. It feels alien to go play (far older) MMOs that do this right, then come back to FFXIV and see it done... differently.

I understand there is a keybind to "target closest enemy", but this should be an unnecessary step. As soon as I start tabbing, it should cycle through the closest first, because honestly, wouldn't I want to target the closest thing first!?

Personally, I put "cycle to target on the left" and "cycle to the target on the right" on my mouse wheel (you can press the mouse wheel itself left or right). I literally hated trying to target anything before I did this. And it's still pretty annoying because, for example, maybe I want to target this Dark Matter Cluster here in Turn 6. Well, no, it's apparently time to cycle through that pack of Lunar Golems (no, I don't actually make this mistake, but it shouldn't really be a mistake able to be made to begin with - I'm near this cluster because I intend to kill it, not because I want to fight golems).

I shouldn't need to press YET ANOTHER BUTTON in order to target the closest thing, and THEN tab from there if I want. It's... just not good design. Why does this game do it differently? No one seems to want it. Please address.

There are many different tab targeting preferences in the options menu, this very one that you are asking for is there, do check it out, you will be amazed at how customizable tab targeting can be.

I believe tab targeting is from left to right of the screen. What I usually do if I can't select a mob specifically with a mouse I will cut off all other enemies on my screen until I isolate the target I want to tab to next. It sounds like a pain in the butt but it helps immensely with targeting for me. Hope this helps.

Honestly...most MMOs I've played that had tab targeting have all pretty much had the same issue. And that is, simply put, it didn't work worth a plug <bleep!>.

"OK! This one's dead. Time to move to the next *tab* targ-wait. No...not that one. *tab* Eh? Seriously?? He's like 50 friggin feet away! *tabtabtab* No. No! NO! *tab* OMFG REALLY? That's not even on my freaking SCREEN! SCREW THIS! *click* That guy, THAT G-oh great...he's friggin dead and now I gotta go through this crap again!" <Goes into a rage storm that would make both the Tasmanian Devil and Animal go "Whoa, Dude! Calm down!">

When you have nothing selected, it prioritizes closest target. Otherwise it does the left-to-right cycle.

u can also limit the amount of targets on screen.....in t6 for example when I wanna tab to the briar under raf, I zoom my camera in so that the only other optional target besides raf is the briars. I have trouble clicking targets, and this tip from my friend really helped.
