What is the reason for Mor Dhona's pink mist weather pattern?

Hey there, I heard of this forum due to the fanfest stream yesterday and realised that I had so many questions or things I wanted to discuss in the future

Anyways, what's up with the pink mist weather pattern in Mor Dhona? I don't remember it being directly explained/mentioned?

It's 'aetheric mist' - a weather effect unique to Mor Dhona that is basically aetheric pollution that came about when the Garlean airship Agrius crashed into Silvertear Lake during the Battle of Silvertear Skies in the year 1562 of the Sixth Astral Era - as Silvertear Lake is the nexus point of the aether streams that run through the planet, it caused such an enormous explosion of aether decades later the place is still reduced to an aether-polluted wasteland, which gives rise to the occasional 'aether' weather effect (it's also why the land which isn't crystallized is just mostly barren rock).

Oooh, interesting - so why does this pollution not seem to effect people? Or is that not explained?

I think the mist is down to having an aether rich atmosphere, sometimes the aether builds up due to wind directions and the pink mist builds, sometimes it is more seperate. The aether isn't really harmful to the five races, since they're able to use aetherite crystals with relative ease, only corrupted aether (orange) can be harmful.

I think this is purple mostly because there are blue and orange ( corrupted crystal ) crystals in Mor Dhona, and this area is really unstable ( There are a lot of allagan technologies, that's where Bahamut broke free and the Agrius destruction didn't help ) so the blue and orange mixed makes it purple/pink.

It's not, the overespected crystals weren't caused until Bahamut and Dalamud's destruction on the land. As Enkidoh said it's a direct effect of the Agrias' explosion. The Five Races may be able to harness aether but they aren't naturally attuned to the aether like monsters/animals are, like how Dodore would only appear during the "purple weather" in 1.0. It's to be expected that the main source of aether in the land would behave more wildly at the heart of the flow/stream than the regular rivers of aether that flow throughout the lands, think of it like the Lifestream from VII.
