The Ascians and the Ivalice Alliance

I'm sure everyone else has noticed this but I just noticed this and thought it was interesting: All of the named Ascians from 2.0 are named after characters from the Ivalice Alliance games (XII and the Tactics games).

Lahabrea, Nabriales, Pashtarot, Igeyorhm, and Emmeroloth are all named after Scions of Light from XII's mythos, who oppose the Scions of Darkness, the Espers the player can summon.

Altima is clearly based on Ultima, who was a Scion of Light before her fall from grace. Altima is also the name of the final boss from Tactics.

Elidibus is named after the man you find at the bottom of the Midlight's Deep in Tactics and fighting him as a Summoner will net you the Zodiark summon (called Zodiac in the original).

    Spoiler
We've also seen Belias in the Summoner's Level 50 quest. I expect that the Ascian that was leading Tristan on was named Loghrif, after the Scion of Light that opposed Belias.

    What do you guys think?
What do you think is the mean of naming the Ascians after the Scions of Light?

SE already addressed this - they basically said outright that it's just fanservice referencing and not actually directly connected to FFXII. It was mentioned as such by Bayohne in the Q@A for a past Letter from the Producer Live video which seems to have disappeared (the link used to be found here.) But I saved the relevant quote for posterity:

A55: To be absolutely clear, there is no connection between FFXIV’s Hydaelyn and FFXII’s Ivalice. Likewise there is no connection with FFXI’s Vana’diel. Each are their own individual world. Based on this, there are connections between the things that appear in the world, and we’ll be revealing more in the future.
So there you have it - the names of the Scions of Light being the names of the Ascians is nothing more than just another nostalgic tip of the hat to a past FF game, and is not a direct connection to FFXII.

Yet when I showed this to Yoshi-P

All he could do was smile, make "hmm hmm" noises and say "you guys are very clever !"

I agree that there is no connection to FFXII, yet if they have those names, and glyphs, it's not just a tip, it hides something much bigger.

I had heard about this too and is one of the reason I thought there had to be more to this then fanservice.

I thought this part of the quote to be rather telling. He says that the worlds are their own, but that there are connections to things that appear in those worlds. I'm likening this to something similar to how Lightning and Gilgamesh were able to enter our world, through the void; A place which has often been speculated (see dissidia) to link all the worlds of Final Fantasy together.
