Crazy with a capital F

I find myself wandering the open world often and I see players either standing post (waiting to que or afk) or running a task (usually solo) which makes me somewhat sad.

Why is there not shenanigans and goofy, make you laugh and smile events going on that the players have started, organized? It may be my server and that other servers have FC's or LS's that run open world events...or maybe not?

My reason for this thread is two fold.

1) Post ideas for s/m/l group events in Open World.
2) Post stories about your excursions with creating/taking part in Open World public created events.

During the event a few months ago there was a flash mob doing the bomb dance on the upper decks of limsa. I think it was a general learning group for how to do the dance synchronized - it look pretty cool seeing everyone clap and wave their hands in unison.

In FF11 I started a suicide cult. You could target yourself with poison, and people dying in the cities was kind of a sight. One by one they fell. I managed to get 20 people lying on ground in front AH in lower jeuno. In hindsight, with today's culture, this seems kind crude to pull off in a game, and there's a little regret - even if it was for "fun".

Once I found my way onto a platform behind the tomestone exchange building (in 2.2) and decided to put up an event up on PF and shouting it out with prizes to whoever could get to where I was standing. Needless to say, I single-handedly doubled the DRG population in Mor Dhona.

From experience, having a player-run event takes a LOT of effort, coordination, and time. You have to be willing to stick your neck out and go against the trend of "all raids all the time". Though sometimes the best ones are impromptu. XD

Reminds me of the time I got really intoxicated and started playing 'Regen Tag' on the spur of the moment with someone in Limsa and we had a blast. I wish I knew who it was, might have been a friends list person, but we were running through the city wreaking havoc using line of sight behind objects and jumping just into and out of range to try and break each other's casts.

It's actually good PVP practice since they're non-detrimental effects you can cast on non party members. Regen is easy to get off of course, if I was going to score it I'd perhaps do something like 1 point for a successful Regen landng, and 5 points for a successful Stoneskin cast since it's not an Instant.

I have considered the whole "Hide and Seek" or "Who Can Get Here?" events and will always have them in the list of could be's, but I have found it takes a certain kind of "Squirrel" player to last any longer than a few minutes playing like this.

Thanks for the replies! I am considering creating a LS and promoting the whole Open World Social Events idea to Midgard... Any LS Name suggestions??

The LS would only be used to keep people informed of what's happening when, btw. Promoting in-game with Shouts is a tough tell... I don't want people to relate me to those dam gil sellers. And I notice that people take offense to players posting in the Duty Finder with anything thats not related to raids or dungeons too. (Again, seems like an anti-social experience when players try to be social?.?)
