    Class Recommendation for semi-Solo Player

    Hello Everyone!
So I am really new to ARR and my play style doesn't offer me a ton of time currently to play even though I love MMO's (I know I should find a new kind of game to play since I lack free time). I tried a free trial a while back and played up to level 10 and really enjoyed the game so I am finally subscribing again.

So my question... I typically only get to sit down and play for an hour or two at a time a couple times a week so I end of solo'ing a lot. What class is good for solo game play but will still allow me to find a group when I do have time? I was thinking either Tank (Marauder) or Healer (Conjurer) but I worry how well I can solo as a conjurer. I like DPS classes but I know that those are sometimes flooded and can't find groups as quickly.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey there,

Pretty much every class can handle their own while out in the field. My first class/job was Conjurer/White Mage and I had no problem handling solo encounters when I was leveling, exploring, and doing quests.

For overworld content that is meant to be solo'd any class can solo just fine. At 30 you will be able to do a quest to allow your chocobo to fight beside you and can turn them into either a tank, dps or healer.

White Mage is capable of soloing well as they have access to Cleric's Stance which swaps a their INT and MND stats and gives them a bonus to magic damage while penalizing healing. At lvl 45 they get Holy, which is great for mowing down groups of trash mobs. When soloing I prefer to use either Scholar, Summoner or Bard. SCHs and SMNs both have pets and so with a chocobo can fill all three roles for a sort of mini-party.

DPS queue times are longer than Healers and Tanks, though how much longer will vary depending on the current time, which instance and your data center. If you'd like to know which jobs are popular, check out the recent census. Welcome to Eorzea!

Thanks for the info guys! I think that I will continue to play my Conjurer and maybe try out another class later on. Since my play time is limited leveling two different classes to try them out would take me a long time so I am hoping that I like what I pick now.

    Arcanist/Summoner. Cause Tank pet.

But if you want easy queues, Marauder/Warrior.

all class can solo, but some are good at solo
    SMN : tank pet
SCH/WHM : capable of self-healing *faster queue on dungeons*

*tips : SMN and SCH share the same class lv, you can just level as SCH to get easy daily bonus queue and swap to SMN when solo-ing on field
about finding group, as long as you're good with your class, you can find a party!

Thanks for the tips Wysteria... I am sticking with the WHM for now. Last MMO I put any real time into was WoW as a Paladin and that was a good solo class but in smaller groups (5) I never really fit in since I couldn't heal, tank, or DPS as good as the classes that were designed to do just one task.

This game is set up VERY differently then wow; if you like the versatility of Arcanist to SCH and SMN; give it a shot! I played most classes in WOW but detest their newest changes. You might be pleasently surprised. Also a new class is coming out at the end of the month, you might want to give that a try as well (though maybe not when it launches, as alot of players will be give it a go)

"Welcome to the ranks of the blue mages. However, at this moment you are but an empty vessel--a base creature, weaker than the most ordinary mortal. A blue mage must wrest her strength and vitality from her enemies. Show me your hunger for unrivaled power! This is the only guidance I shall give you."

I will say that SCHs and SMNs are still in demand for fights as much as any other jobs--some strategies prefer to have them, a few don't. Some strategies prefer mostly ranged DPS or don't prefer certain jobs, although not near to the extent of FFXI. For healing eight man groups many prefer to have a WHM and a SCH, as they work very well together. A SCH can heal a light (4 man) party just fine, although WHM is preferred for light party speed runs. Both Arcanist jobs have multiple pets with different roles (SCH has two, SMN three) so they can adjust to different situations. WHM definitely has more healing tools though, if that is what you prefer. SCH has more damage and enfeebling spells. At least one WHM will normally be desired for a party. On the other hand soloing on SCH or SMN I'm much harder to kill than on my WHM even with the same level of gear. I've actually accidently killed myself a few times trying to solo things on WHM thinking I would be able to handle it since I never had a problem with it SCH. The pet jobs are better at soloing some of the few things that are not meant to be solo'd, IMO.

As WHM you still will want to level up your Arcanist at some point for the cross class abilities Virus (lvl 15) and Eye for an Eye (lvl 34) so if you did want to try them out, that time spent won't be wasted. SCH likewise cross classes several abilities from Conjurer and both WHM and SCH cross class abilities from Thaumaturge.
