I would expect the same in XIV, honestly. In T9 you really have to learn the patterns by muscle memory or however you want to call it. Even with someone in voice chat calling everything, someone without practice will die quick. But on the plus side, having official addon support would cut back on third party program use. I'm using this example because it was recently in the limelight... how many people would use radars if it didn't come conveniently bundled with the same program that makes the Twintania stopwatch possible? How many people would even know radars exist if there was an ingame Twintania (or Nael/Ramuh EX/etc) stopwatch?

Having a warning system reduces 1 less challenge you have to deal with. When you have to pay less attention to certain mechanics because you have an addon or mod to do it for you, you now have fewer things to focus on, making encounters MUCH MUCH easier.

Anything that makes an encounter easier contradicts the argument that content isn't hard enough, including, warning systems.

Well. One way or another, endgamers are using it. But addons would let us do so much more. How about a friends list that lets us keep notes and provides a "last seen" date? Or an inventory management helper that lets crafters know what materials they have stored on retainers? A more detailed weather tracker for fishers? etc etc

Updated my OP to reflect this... this isn't an argument for DBM-alikes in particular, but I suspect those are one of the most popular third-party tools right now. Anyway, included more examples.

Totally. Being able to track your buffs and cooldowns in a logical manner is completely foul play.

Not all addons are there for hand-holding. The majority are simply quality of life improvements.

Healing in this game is abysmal with no addons to help better track your group, and the macro system is super finnicky when it comes to mouseover macros and such.
Allowing third party addons wouldn't harm the game in any way. It would allow players to better customize their UIs how they like. No one would be "forced" to get these addons. The base game is completely playable as-is. This would simply be for those that want more customization.

We don't even need to get as complex as DBM. Throw me some better buff bars and a cooldown tracker, along with party/alliance window customization and I'd be set.

SE already stated sanctioned Add-ons will be added to the PS3/PS4 via update, so no this isn't an excuse.

Clunky UI is part of the challenge. Add-ons would make navigating your UI far too easy. Clearly cheating.

I honestly can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

Dealing with the UI is part of the challenge? Just .. what?

In no game should you have to navigate around the UI in order to do your job correctly. It's nothing more than a tool to perform.

You wouldn't grab a broken violin and say "It's okay, I just need to pull the strings that aren't broke and hope music will come out".

I want addons really bad for UI tweaks and RP addons, such as character profiles, IC/OOC flags, etc.
