This lol, should have made story coil 1st then the current version of coil we have atm.
Cuz y still do titan ex when you have finished regular titan in story mode?
Cuz it was a quest and you wanted the loot it dropped and for the reward at the end. Not because of the story of why they re summoned him.
Raiders can go back to coil for round 2 to get loot while us casuals get to be satisfied with just seeing the story.
Imo its ppl who raid and take coil so seriously tht make this game so divided lol.
Raiders can still have their cake while us casuals can have a small cupcake.
Urs is still better ofc but we don\\\\'t care and neither should u as we got to have a little something too.
But ofc raiders don\\\\'t want that and thats where the problem is at.
I think it's an understandable move to have coil story modes being introduced. I do hope though that:
A - Lockouts won't be shared
B - Story modes aren't going to be the only alternative version of the content
It'd be nice if raids would get more options all together.
For example:
8m story mode
24m story mode
8m normal mode
24m normal mode
8m savage mode
24m savage mode
Separate lockouts, separate rewards. Just to give a little more flavor to the pickings of raids in this game.
What I don't understand is why they have to keep nerfing Coil only to add this eventual story mode, seems pretty unnecessary to have both systems running at once.
It makes sense to me. Nerfs help people with gearing up their jobs by getting clears on old content. The story mode helps people that don't care for those items or rewards (tomes, etc) and mostly just want the story.
If you took all rewards from old Coils and made it super easy just for story, people might never set foot in it again after doing it once. If you implement a story mode alongside it though, you get people that clear just for story and move on with their Eorzean lives never really wanting to try the battles or go for the items. The nerfed coils would still be there for those that want those gear (for alt jobs or for glamour) and other rewards (tanking achievements, I guess).

If players want the rewards (Even if it's for vanity) you should clear the content as it stands, if you want it for progression/story after the content is no longer relevant or done then you should go through story mode if you aren't able to clear it as it was on release. Nerfing it and then just releasing an alternate route later is just a waste of development time. I'm fine with this story mode idea existing, but it should come along with Coil not getting nerfed during its actual content lifespan anymore. If people want to gear up their jobs there are already Myth rewards and Hunts/Roulette -> Soldiery Rewards which are either equal or better to anything you'd find in Coil 1 for instance (And when 2.4 comes out Soldiery will too be presumably uncapped providing an alternative to Coil 2).
If you want rewards -> Clear the content the way it was designed
If you want progression/plot -> This alternate option will now exist
No sense in nerfing the content and then providing an alternate route on top of that, players should rise to the challenge if they want beyond what they are "entitled" to, which is my mind is the story + ability to access content.
Sure, and that's what a lot of people are saying. The truth is though, with a story mode implemented, there would still be two versions of coil running side by side (like you mentioned when you said it didn't make sense). It isn't my system, but I'm telling you why it makes sense to have them both and you kind of reiterated that for me.
I get that gear should be earned, but the big deal for me is why they gate story behind the hardest content in the first place? The main scenario is laughably easy, yet this bahamut stuff and alisaie's story is shown before the start of 2.0 and during the main scenario as well. Then, when you're done with gaius' shenanigans, you find out you can't see where alisaie ran off to without becoming a raider.
Now they're spending resources just to have a way for people to see this story when this wouldn't be necessary if they hadn't gated it behind coil in the first place. If people wanted to just see the end of alisaie's storyline, which was hinted at in the main scenario, there should be a way for them to do it. Next time, have a story just for endgamers (if one is even necessary to justify the raid) that doesn't have to do with the main scenario.
Then don't play a mmo which by default IS the most time consumming kind of online game. Oh and please don't say "but I like it".lol @ the elitists. They say the story is part of the reward and everyone should work hard for it. Then in the same breath tell people to go watch it on youtube. Experiencing the story on youtube is even less work then going through a story mode.
If the elitists are crying about a coil story mode, do they also cry about a Levi/Ramuh/Shiva HM that isn't as difficult as the extremes?
I'm happy to put in the effort, but like others said, getting a consistent static is not easy for everyone due to real life obligations. I have a job, sometimes I am oncall. The time of day I am available varies from one day to the next. Maybe if I still lived in my parents basement and could play FFXIV 24/7 this wouldn't be a problem. For those of us that have responsibilities, it is.
This is some sad news. That and 2.4 as it stand is also a joke. Hopin that when you clear the story mode you just don't have access to the next tier of Coils and still have to beat the normal turns.
Story mode is implemented
"Casuals" clear it the first week
Complain there's nothing to do
Unsub even quicker than ever
Please stop using that, you are not a SE developer, they can decide what is or not a waste, not you.
After clearing story mode casuals would have exactly the same amount of content they would have if there was no story mode, so you are wrong.
