Those are all bad analogies. Ffxiv is both an mmo and a numbered game, meaning it's in the main series. You've never had to do hardcore things to get the full story. The weapons are like full Coil raiding; challenges for the most dedicated players, but not necessary to play the full story.

It's SIDE story, not related to the plot. It has a story of its own.

Like I said I dont mind having a "story mode" implemented, just not at the same time the content is released. Its like showing the preview of a season finale in the very first episode of a serie :S

It really isn't much of a side story. New players watch that opening scene and go "omg I want to know what happened to the Garleans" no, they want to see Bahamut.
