The Garlean Emperor? (Patch 2.4 spoilers)

To be honest, this new Garlean Emperor has a slightly different set of armour than the concept art of Solus... the "dragon" crown is definitely the same, but the gear around the chest, waist and lower torso is slightly different. I too would have LOVED to see what kind of person Solus really is... but we shouldn't rule out the possibility that he might not yet be dead but rather too weak to continue to carry out his duties.

Perhaps the old man is in cryo-sleep and the new chap is just a regent for now... who knows?

Nonetheless, I'm in the camp of people who are speculating that its his son... or even a grandson. Remember that a war of succession has already broken out which was what inspired the Domans to revolt for independence. It just makes sense that in the future (perhaps two years from now), the Devs might eventually open the Garlean empire to us in expansion 4.0. Thus, having some sibling rivalry towards this new younger emperor opens up a LOT of opputunity to really flesh out the lore.

I'm saying this yet again: My guess is that Solus has more that one offspring... possibly three. Two older sons who are vying for the throne and a youngest daughter who is a Legatus. The irony could be that this youngest child (the daughter who is a legatus) is actually the most capable of the three children; thus the justification of why a war of succession occurs.

Just my few pennies into the pond.

I personally think it is Emperor Solus rejuvenated by Ascian magic and manipulated to conquer the lowlands of Coerthas or something of the sort to match the new locations of 3.0 and post 3.0. It has been the central plot device in 2.0 and it'll be the plot device for 3.0 as well with the Archbishop of Coerthas being manipulated by them. Either that or he is his son following the orders/walking in the footsteps of his father the Emperor.

For a loooong time, Solus was on the antagonist list of the official website but never made an appearance. Furthermore, he was recently illustrated by the artist team for the first year anniversary with stunning details and additions.

I doubt they would write down such a build-up to have him die or be replaced at the end. This guy is behind of so many things in the world of Eorzea... They wouldn't kill him off and I'm pretty sure the Ascians won't allow him to die either.

I'm gonna go wild with speculations:
Solus found a way to revert back to youth through magitek research, with aims to resurrect Midgardsormr, as It had the power to destroy their flagship. There was some datamined stuff about 2.5. dialogue with Midgardsormr.

That added to their interest on Allagans and their way of enslaving dragons would bring them an unbeatable airforce.
And SE had something BIG planned for 2.5-3.0 almost comparable to Bahamut escaping from the Moon.
I dunno, im just a bit groggy from sleep ^^

Interesting. And it looks like Nabriales will take center stage for the Ascians this time. Two things bother me. 1. While Midgarsomr has several lines, we don't have any for Solus or anyone with a Garlean naming pattern. 2. Icehart has lines in what is supposed to be 2.5 and it is blatantly obvious that she is Shiva in disguise.

Wether it really is Solus or not it would be a total waste to kill him off-screen when he had such a beautiful concept art. Garleans seem to die with most of their story untold. Nael van Darnus also had a lot of potential in after he/she escaped tempering.

So, a dead person that then was recreated using Aether by Bahamut, then destroyed by another of Bahamut's creation in order to shut him down would reapper? Nael is twice dead now. If she raises, she's going to become a meme.

Nael is an elezen, and that emperor looks like a highlander (unless full-blooded garleans are considered their own race, as he has the third eye).

Don't look so smug. I know what you are thinking, but the Coil of Bahamut was mearly a setback.

Elezen? That's only a rumor that was never confirmed and honestly his mother(if his girl form is his mother) doesn't look Elezen herself.

This woman is Bradamante that gave her name to his spear. And he used Elezen only emotes during the CS and is really tall it's highly possible that he is an elezen.

His female form in T9 has pointed ears like an Elezen too. As far as I know, he's not even taking the form of a specific woman. Bahamut just shaped him into a girl for some reason.

What does it matter who he is? Se has a track record for making important character background characters. We see them in one cutscene, and they disappear for most of the missions just to be defeated and only have about a paragraph of dialogue.

Happened with Guais, and all his buddies.

Happened to Ultima Weapon.

Happened to Labahrea.

Happened to Levaithan.

Happened to Sycrus Tower Emperor.

The only character that showed up multiple times, showed his clear power and strength, and had an extremely hard fight when it first came out, and then had an even harder fight come out. Which is Darnus. But this is 1.0

2.0 will just make this guy seem cool for a bit, then kill him off.
