No idea as I've not got any sale numbers to check. But, even if you assume that PSN accounts for half the number of accounts (I'll bet it's more frankly) you're looking at about 1.15M people, of whom less than 100,000 have cleared T5.

Perfect find. That is all the more reason to have a story mode Coil. In the future, hopefully SE will catch on and make above average difficultly raids separate from story. It's rather interesting to note, that only 7.4% of all players on PS3/PS4 have beat T5 (as that's the percentage of PSN FFXIV accounts that have the trophy for doing so). I'd imagine numbers for PC are pretty similar.
Given that abysmal number, is it any wonder that people want a "Story-Mode"? Coil will still be for the top 10% of players, just with that mode it lets the other 90% at least experience the lore.
Really ? 7.4% ? Even 20% echo ? Ps players fellows ... Please raise the number to at least 15%,thank you very much. It's rather interesting to note, that only 7.4% of all players on PS3/PS4 have beat T5 (as that's the percentage of PSN FFXIV accounts that have the trophy for doing so). How many of those people have completed the main story quest and dinged 50? It's a useless statistic if it includes literally everyone who bought the game and put it in their playstation at some point. It's rather interesting to note, that only 7.4% of all players on PS3/PS4 have beat T5 (as that's the percentage of PSN FFXIV accounts that have the trophy for doing so). Edit: I don't know where you are pulling those numbers from but here is something from a quick google search

So according to this, which is just a sample of players judging from the numbers, 8.14% have cleared T5, but only 34.16% have cleared the game. So actually out of the people who actually get to end game the number who clear T5 approaches 25%, and only counting a sample of console players. You really need to factor in that many people buy a game and just play it for the free sub.

The numbers were pulled from my Trophy list on my PSN account. You are right that the 7.4% doesn't tell the whole story, at the time that was the only number I had. After some more digging, the number of players who have cleared the 2.0 story (according to my data at least) is just over 27% on PSN. So that agrees roughly with your data as well. How many of those people have completed the main story quest and dinged 50? It's a useless statistic if it includes literally everyone who bought the game and put it in their playstation at some point.

Figure 25% of PSN players who have access to First Coil have finished it. That number isn't too bad... sorta, but it still leaves 75% of the population out. That isn't good. Frankly I would love to know the numbers for Second Coil.

I think that's fine though. If 100% of the playerbase can finished what is supposed to be the most bone crushing content in the game...your game is too easy and as a result you'll alienate all hardcore raiders and any prospective hardcore raiders. At the same time, casuals (raiders or not) will beat everything and have nothing interesting to do thus moving onto a new game altogether.
That carrot always has to be there...the stick can't be too long in some cases. Naoki stated they are happy with current BC:T5 clear percentages, and they'll likely review SC:T4 clears in a few month's time. They also did say they are thinking about a story mode version when the playerbase is more or less passed the earlier raids and there just won't be anyone doing them.
I've never understood why there's only one difficulty for Coil (Don't get me started on 'Savage/1% Mode'). I've cleared T9, so it's no bother for me, but just look at WoW's new tiered raiding going from MoP to WoD. There's 4 difficulties or >9< different ways to defeat just one boss whether it be 10-man normal or 20-man mythic.

I'd like to say that there are players on console that cleared T5 but had difficulty having the trophy unlock. There are also players who play mainly on PC but also on PS3/4 and thus would not have the trophy unless they cleared it while logged into PSN. I wouldn't say the trophy count is an accurate measurement.
