Out with the OLD, IN with The NEW -- A Look Back to Epicness

I remember when i was first able to play final fantasy xi, i was overwhelmed... the first time i crossed into La Theine and so different monsters or how i got lost in Sand'oria or how a black tiger showed me the dangers of crossing into Jugner Forest without a guide.... Or even when I first set foot in Jeuno. Let us not forget when i first visited Lufaise meadows and all the new areas in between. It felt Powerful and to this day i still remember those moments that made me fall in love with ffxi my first MMO and that was more than 7 years ago. Will ARR ever feel like that?

Been a legacy member, played 1.0. alpha and ALL of BETA phases and with only 6 months subscribed to ARR since it came out shows that ARR lacks Epicness. Will we ever see True Epicness? Will this management team ever stop lying to players and stop postponing stuff? will we ever have an epic storyline?

I sure hope so cause I loved the world of ARR and i know it can be better but they need to add a sense of danger, a sense of adventuring and give us reasons to explore the world of eorzea and stop it with the silly quests and really turning on the heat with new stuff and not the same old story strategy that turns this game unfun.

Anyone else feel like it? by the way... anyone know of a web series like they used to do back in the day in ffxi about ARR?

Think you're in the wrong forums. XI is somewhere down the hall.

Not the wrong forum, it has to do with ARR and its lack of epicness and the difference between ARR and its first year and the fact that FFXI had its first expansion on its 1st year. unlike ffxiv arr. my post had to do with the lack of epicness in ARR and how ARR could be. I welcome u to show me the epicness of ARR that with a year of been out has no real epicness and many hundred thousand players have left because they continiously lie and keep postponing stuff for no reason. so my post is on the right forum. haters got to hate. even the anniversary was a joke, no real event, no carefully crafted events. so be constructive instead of a hater.

Lemme tell ya whats wrong here : UR 1st MMO feeling is very subjective, let us ask those who say FF14 is their 1st MMO, shall we?

    This....

The reason XI "felt" epic is because it took so long to do anything that, it in itself, was an accomplishment. "OMG FULL PARTY!" or "OMG I MADE IT TO JEUNO" or "DING!" That game just took so damn long to do anything, it really sucked the life out of you.

Mind you I will say I am very subjective in regards to Everquest, my first mmo. I played since beta for 10 years. The problem is, MMO's as a whole have changed, the playerbase has changed. Most dont want to invest that much time into a game anymore no matter how rewarding and epic it was. I will agree that ARR doesn't have those feels like EQ did to me but I still very much enjoy this game.

My only issue right now is there is so much casual content and hardly any (if any at all) hardcore content. I really wish there were more difficult things for us hardcores. Aside from that, Im enjoying the pace at which they are releasing content (albeit im sure everyone wouldn't argue with more content faster but alas, it takes time to develop this stuff). Nevertheless, Im having a great time and have had some epic moments with friends.

Another thing I would like to see changed is the danger in this game, there is none, and there needs to be. I want to feel that the world is dangerous, I want to feel like I need to be careful and my actions have consequences. Right now the only concern I have is if the heavy effect will prevent me from getting to my destination in a timely manner.

Here's the thing, Adbed. What you're feeling is nostalgia.

Think if it like your first love (if you've had one). It's never going to feel the same. It's never going to feel quite that epic, or traumatic. There's been plenty of awe-inspiring situations, and many people would go from FFXIV to FFXI and wonder where your sanity went.

It's a matter of perspective, and yours is similar to a lot of FFXI veterans, but not the same as many, many more.
Heck, even FFXI isn't the same as it was anymore. Ask the people there, they might even tell you it's better now.

So, you're ask the question of when FFXIV will ever live up to your nostalgia? I'll tell you right now: Never. Because you're measuring it against memory, and not opening yourself up to new experiences, new perspectives.

    Let it go, man.

To be fair, OP has a point in the sense that even though times and players might have changed somewhat ARR is pushing the boundaries of how much "new players to mmorpgs" and "easy access" controls the game. Even compared to other games on the market that it is trying to mimic. I understand not wanting things to take as much time as it did in XI, but ARR went in the complete other direction to the point where it went too far imo. There is such a thing as a middle ground, I wish they would aim more for that than they currently seem to be doing.
