what sucks is that pug and mar can both tank but glad cant DD, so we are essentially unneeded
i tanked on my rank 40 pug and seemed to be pretty effective

Ugh. As much as I like glads, I can't stand pure tanks. We need an offensive class that uses normal swords. Yoshida really needs to play a GW warrior to see how a frontline class should be played. Why is it that in most online games, if someone has a regular sword, he isn't expected to kill anything? This boggles me.
Ideally if you went one handed your attack power and accuracy would go up by however much a shield would protect you for. If you go duel, you get two normal powered attacks.

Mr Yoshida isn't thinking outside the box. All the classes and jobs are just going to end up stereotyped. I wanted to see the game have multiple tank classes and multiple healing classes. But apparently we are going to have obvious tank class, obvious DD classes, and Obvious healing classes, and it is just going to end up completely monotonous. They still seem to play to lock the weapon class to the job it unlocks. And he wants PvP.... what to see gladiator get its face owned off because it cant do any damn damage? Just going to go back to having unused classes.
Im starting to wonder if he really played everquest. I played it. It didn't lack for variety in what you can do with certain classes. Paladins and shadowknights could use 1h/shield and 2h sword/axe/mace.

That's something that's bugging me a little about this Reika. In the original GW you could mix two classes and really push the boundaries of your main and turn it into something totally different if you wanted to (at least in pve). GW isn't going to do that so much though, but they are going a new route in what a class is. From what I've heard about rift, you can sort of take the abilities from other classes in your group. In EVE you aren't really locked into a class so you can do whatever your ship and skills will let you.Mr Yoshida isn't thinking outside the box. To keep things short, I really think that the traditional character system of one class having only one trick isn't going to work. If you want something like that, play SWTOR... which is a clone of a 7 year old game.

Honestly, as much as it bugs me I switched over to Pugilist a couple of days ago. I love sword-wielding characters but not enough to be a pure meatshield who can't deal damage for himself.
I mean, come on. Cecil Harvey in FFIV was a tank but hit REALLY hard, and he's THE iconic Paladin of the series. But instead of basing Paladins off Cecil, they're basing them off lame ass WoW/EQ stereotypes where they suck at doing damage but can get hit a lot while your party fights for you.
Hey now, Retribution paladins in WoW have turned into beasts ^^.Honestly, as much as it bugs me I switched over to Pugilist a couple of days ago. I love sword-wielding characters but not enough to be a pure meatshield who can't deal damage for himself.

But yea, they are stereotyping classes and making it so they can only do one thing. I don't want it to be wow-itized, but with the armory system that they love so much, a class should be able to do most of what you will it to.
At no time during my gladiator quests was i taught how to carry my shield. It was all about the sword with those quests, and gladiator style. The shield has its own class and SP too, they just didn't think enough to make a guild for it. Shield is the one that does the defending. Gladiator has some defensive skills of its own, but so do pugilist and marauder.
Re-building some systems is fine, but some aspects were good, including the ones not yet implemented: the shieldless gladiator.
Dev team, Gladiator is a class. You want a pure tank, wait for jobs and make classes what they are meant to be. Same thing for forcing conj into the healing too.
I think I have an idea on how to make a glad a DD without him being too much of a tank as well... give him some kind of skill that can only be used if his off-hand is free to up his attack power. That way if you want to go offensive, you can (no shield), you want to be a tank, then bring a shield and you can't use the attack boost skill. That way you won't be too overpowered one way or the other.
