What keeps you playing FFXIV: ARR?

Although my prior MMO history is short in comparison to most people I play in-game with, I used to run into the problem of getting bored of games. I have been playing frequently for a year and some months now. Don't get me wrong I have moments while playing FF that I feel momentary boredom but overall the game still has an appeal. Not only has this game gone through many updates in terms of playable content but I don't feel pushed to throw real life money to achieve something faster or attain vanity items (with the exception of the double choco mount for those who bought a separate game/account...). I will not linger on the areas of the game which need improvement because I think by doing so we overlook all the factors which make this game fun, as defined by the individual. I enjoy the games environment, random aesthetics, as well as the story-line that FF is supposedly popular for. Which is why I am also curious as to what attracts others to continue to play?

Well I took a 6 month break so I've still got plenty of content to get through, that and wanting to get everything to 50 keeps me playing

Yes and no. Although the provided post which I was not aware of is similar to mine, my post is centered around aspects of the game that keep people playing long term (content updates, end-game etc) while the post in you're link is why people log on every day. For example I may log on daily to say hi to a couple of people and log off. What I was asking is why you continue to renew your subscription or take time out of your day to play through content vs moving on to another game completely.

As an example, I just finished novus and ixali quests yesterday (novus took a while to spiritbond all that stuff) and now I have nexus to do. I also need to clear Ramuh Ex (25% so far), Second Coil of Bahamuth (I have yet to set foot in it due to no static) and the content coming in a week for 2.4.

My secret to continue enjoying the game is simply to progress when things come by. Today will be Ramuh, tomorrow maybe nexus, and then some FC "help a newbie" stuff the day after that. Maybe in a month or 2 I will have cleared all the content of 2.3, and I'll start tackling 2.4 content (2.4 dungeons and story excepted, as I usually do them when I pass by them)

The social aspects of the game, Eorzea is a good place, and story quests, i don't play much once i'm done with the quests, because in terms of gameplay, the game has little to offer and much to improve.

The game is gorgeous to look at, my kid loves watching me play. Though, I'm almost out of challenges to overcome in game and I've experienced all the content. My Nexus is done, I've been through coils, all my crafting is at max level. I have enough gil to do whatever I want, except own a house; it took me over a year to get as much dough as I have and it is still not enough to buy a house. I could grind for gil, but after trying to do that I realized I'd rather just not play FFXIV than SB expensive crap, craft and hustle, or sell runs.

Novus done (allmost Nexus already) , 2nd Novus - 30 alex left , all job 50 , all leves , missions & other activity done . What left is second Coil & Ramuh and 2.4 ->>
BUT all This no matter , matter is I <3 FFXIV and this make me log in every day when i can !
