    The little things

What are the little things you like about FF14?
What are the little things you don't like about FF14?

For now i don't like how everyone ignores me when i'm trying to communicate with other players. But i'm like 24 hours old here. I assume it gets better.

I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!

I dislike stuff that sucks, and like the stuff that doesn't suck.

    Let's see..

    I like...
    • the remarkable amount of attention given to ambient sound.
    • the level of effort put in to making the character animations look smooth and natural.
    • the preference for believability and detail in equipment design.
    • the little animations they connected to movement, like a little step or two when halting from a run.
    • the fact that sitting down heals you a little faster.
    • how the moonphases are displayed in the night sky.
    • being able to sheathe and unsheathe my weapon at will.
    • the subtle deployment of mature themes throughout the story and setting.
    • being able to hide my weapon completely when I so choose.
    • the roleplay community - seriously I've never seen one so good in an MMO.
    • the writers choosing to make the Black Shroud / Twelveswood an inherently dangerous area instead of some namby-pamby enchanted forest type affair.
    • the level of character customisability and detail.
    • the variability of clothing options.
    • having a retainer. Rilulu is adorable.
    • the presence of the /em command.
    • the way the vast majority of potentially annoying elements are toggle-able.
    • the effort taken to implement weather effects. Eager to see their influence on the game systems though.
    • getting to choose my character's birthday. Similarly eager to see the Guardian Deity have a unique effect though.
    • the subtlety of the twin moons; it's refreshing to have an alien sky, but not have it shoved in my face.
    • the level of detail in the character shadows. They even get longer based on light angles and so forth.
    • the level of control I have over what does and does not appear in the chat log (seriously, FF XIV's spoiled me here. I tried to play Hellgate London the other day and had to give up since you can't turn off the <ALL CHANNELS> 'channel').
    • the huge variety of weapon types within classes. Spears, harpoons, lances, bidents, tridents, guisarmes, halberds...
    I liked...
    • the answer to the convenience vs realism question on player collision. It used to be that we caught for a moment on entities, rather than the annoyance of their being totally impassable and the iffy feeling of ghosting through someone. Shame that's gone now.
    I dislike...
    • the lack of a contextual chat display option (no chat bubbles of some sort, basically. I like those and they make it easier to see where a message came from).
    • the present lack of a housing/boats/whatever system (does this count as a 'little thing'?)
    • the animation failure while drawing a weapon and moving (though supposedly that's due for fixing).
    • the increased enemy sizes, especially given their hit/range boxes apparently didn't scale with them.
    • the way the camera refuses to stay where I put it when moved with a controller in first person mode.
    • how the /em command is tied to /say, meaning /em's can never be sent through /party or /tell.
    • arbitrarily being prevented from wearing certain apparel rather than simply being at a visible disadvantage where appropriate.
    • the decrease in maximum party size. While I understand from a gameplay perspective, it's made player-run events a lot harder to organise.
    • the over the top party bonus effects.
    • being unable to toggle monster enmity and level display in the target info field (as opposed to alongside the overhead names).
    • being forced to be an adventurer from outside my chosen city state. It'd be nice to have the option of being born there, even if the reasons for it being the way it is are understandable.
    • the speed at which day and night cycle; it doesn't give me enough time to appreciate either state.
    • the lack of variety in spell casting animations.
    • the way character shadows bug out near drops in the landscape.
    • not being able to disable certain chat elements, like level up alerts, without disabling other things that don't really seem related and I'd rather not have gone.
    • not being able to tell the game what linkshell I want a message to go to with a simple /l# command.
    • the problematic linkshell administrator support (hopefully on the fix list).
    • the way the servers start failing to display characters in crowded areas, especially the lack of logic behind who they hide.
    • the way things sometimes go buggy when a player seats themselves on something, causing characters to appear to still be sitting when they'd stood up or moved and so on.
    I disliked...
    • the horrendously limited message length at launch. Thankfully this has been rectified.

    Well, you asked.

And I realise some of these are controversial, and I'm not out to start an argument nor will I argue on them.. these are just, well, the little things I do and do not like.

I like how you can build and develop on one character, and it helps create a deeper bond with your game avatar.

I don't like the current world layout.

I could list more but I'll keep it simple.
